I’m so sorry, sounds frightening and maddening! Glad you’re ok.

One of the many great parts of this project is it has brought in tens of millions in state funding to make street improvements. So those will happen in the coming years.

Yes, where feasible. And where it’s not, adding trees. These are some of the trees they’re prioritizing to retain:

Yes, dependent on funding.

A citizen’s group submitted 2500+ signatures last week to get the measure on the ballot and they need ~1700 valid so it’s likely it will be voted on next year. I’ll be campaigning for it!

It’s just so competitive for California’s Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities funding.

There are so many great projects that apply every year so it’s easy to miss out by a point or two. The scoring isn’t arbitrary, just very competitive.

Plenty could be done:

1) Fund more TOD staff at BART

2) Increase affordable housing funding and rate it is distributed (one year the project missed out on state funding by 1 point!)

3) End or reduce tariffs and lower interest rates and construction costs to accelerate market rate housing

So cool! Wildcat Canyon is one of our favorite parks.

Oh no, sorry to hear that.

Sounds scary! Glad you’re both ok.

California and especially the Bay Area have a very high cost of living.

Also, West Contra Costa teachers are paid less than teachers are paid in other Bay Area school districts.

We really need state legislation to change this. A project for us and @calbike.bsky.social next year?

Oh yeah, they definitely have. From what I've heard, El Cerrito High is a great school. They certainly still have challenges though.

And that sounds like a rough experience!

Oh no, I too hope that wouldn't happen today (and it shouldn't have happened to your teacher)! My kid's only been in the school district for two years, and both of her teachers have been phenomenal. Her current teacher has been teaching at the district for 30+ years.
