Yes, where feasible. And where it’s not, adding trees. These are some of the trees they’re prioritizing to retain:

I’ve never been so excited to see fencing!

Construction is beginning on El Cerrito Plaza BART TOD, replacing parking with 743 homes and hopefully a new library.

The first building will be 100% affordable with 70 homes.

I’ve been working on this project for nearly a decade and couldn’t be happier.

I’m grateful for El Cerrito City staff. ❤️

On Sunday my family and I noticed a staircase railing at Tassajara Park was very loose and a bit hazardous.

I told staff about it on Monday morning... and it was fixed 4 hours later!

El Cerrito staff care so much and work so hard for our community.

Another end of a transit card era!

The question is - will @mta.info have a MetroCard fashion show to rival @bart.gov’s?

Love seeing BART so crowded at nearly 11 pm in Berkeley.

I love El Cerrito ❤️

Today my daughter and I went for an Ohlone Greenway scooter ride/walk and along the way:

🚴🏼‍♀️Ran into several people we know

🚶🏼‍♀️Met a family that lives 2 blocks from us

🐕Pet 3 dogs

📚Got books at the library

🪾And my daughter climbed 3 trees and rode her favorite swing.

West Contra Costa teachers deserve a fair contract!

My family and I have been rallying with teachers every Friday for the past two months at Madera Elementary.

Negotiations have stalled and teachers on the verge of a strike. It was so heartening to see the biggest turnout of families yet today!

On Monday evening a driver hit a person cycling across Central on the Ohlone Greenway, despite the automatic flashing lights when someone crosses.

People walking and biking use this crossing a lot, as it connects to El Cerrito Plaza BART station.

We must slow car traffic to protect lives.

A lovely musical interlude on my BART ride home.

I see these musicians frequently in the evening on the Red Line in the East Bay.

Music on transit brings me so much joy. ❤️🎶🚄

On Saturday a 70 year old woman walking across San Pablo Avenue was hit by a driver.

Due to the severity of her injuries she was airlifted to a trauma hospital for medical care and is in critical condition.

San Pablo is El Cerrito’s most dangerous street. We must make it safer to protect lives.

How many more deaths of people walking and biking will we tolerate before we make our streets safer?

This is a crisis throughout the East Bay - a woman was killed in a hit-and-run while crossing an Antioch street yesterday.

We need to rapidly transform our streets to slow cars and protect people.

Trains are the best way to travel with kids.

The views on Capitol Corridor keep my daughter entertained for much of the trip to Sacramento.

It’s so comfortable and easy to move around, and the cafe car provides a good distraction and yummy snacks.

So much better than the stress of flying!

The @amtrak.com app has improved so much!

Never again will I need to wait a long time at a station. Not only does the app show the projected departure time, it shows when the train departed previous stations.

And unlike airports, you can show up just a few minutes before the train departs.

Contra Costa County renters need to earn $43.63/hour to afford average rent.

We need to build a LOT more housing to bring rents down, and El Cerrito is doing that.

We're also investing in homeless outreach, and we just increased our investment in preventing homelessness with financial assistance.

On my walk home from BART tonight, I was thrilled to see signs announcing an El Cerrito Plaza BART parking lot will close in less than 2 weeks to make way for housing.

Ultimately, all the surface parking will be replaced with 743 homes - nearly half affordable.

Can’t wait to welcome new neighbors!

BART holiday sweaters are here!

I picked mine up just in time for today’s cold, rainy weather.

I have every BART holiday sweater, and this one might be my favorite. It’s warm, cozy, and cute! And BART is offering youth sizes for the first time.

Just voted yes on Prop 50!

It was super convenient to put my ballot into the drop box at El Cerrito City Hall on my way into tonight’s council meeting.

Was happy to see several others dropping their ballots off at the same time. If you haven’t voted yet, you have until 8 pm tonight.

It’s happening!

Developers will break ground this month on El Cerrito Plaza BART TOD, replacing parking with 743 homes and hopefully a new library.

Join BART for a pop-up info session Wed, Nov 5 from 4 to 6pm to learn about the TOD and station access improvements.

I was running early to an event so I got off BART a stop early at Powell Street for an extra walk.

Instead I sat and listened to a wonderful pianist play for 20 minutes. At one point another person came up and asked if they could play together, and they did.

I love music on transit ❤️🎶

Just now I let an AC Transit 57 bus pass me by and waited several more minutes for the free Emery-Go-Round to BART, something I’ve done many times.

And I realized that come December 10, with the rollout of Clipper 2, I’ll NEVER do this again. All AC Transit to BART transfers will be free! 🎉🚍🚄

An exciting project that's desperately needed for safety.

Love this quote from @bikeeastbay.bsky.social Advocacy Director Robert Prinz: "There’s 100 years of car-oriented infrastructure that we’re going to have to revisit – but the more work a city does around this stuff, the easier it gets."

Depressing how CA measures to the rest of the US on housing, childcare costs, and more.

Most concerning - the share of Californians who lack the resources needed to fully participate in the economy is 58.1%, nearly the highest in the nation.

We can solve so much of this by building more housing

Thrilled North Berkeley BART Access Project is complete!

It is a rare project that continues a high quality bike connection through a parking lot to a destination with no gaps. Let's make more of these happen!

Ribbon cutting event was joyous, and I was happy to speak for @bikeeastbay.bsky.social.

Every city should do this!

In El Cerrito my dream is to close this stretch of Elm Street to cars on Halloween. By 7 pm the sidewalks are so congested with trick-or-treaters that folks move slowly or spill onto the street.

Would be amazing if the street was open to and safe for people walking.
