My Kingdom and more for anyone to realize that awarding yourself a government contract is not a conflict of interest. It's corruption. When the bank teller takes the money out of the cash drawer and puts it in his pocket that's not a conflict of interest either.

I wonder if this is unhelpful framing. If we posit that people ARE upset and shocked by the level of corruption, maybe people would realize that they are. I’m upset!!
I know this is going to sound naive or earnest, but I genuinely find myself shocked by how little people seem to be upset by the levels of corruption we're seeing. Is that the median voter assumes everyone is corrupt already? Or isn't actually getting stories about the corruption?

The federal assistance pause list of programs from OMB include essentially all the discretionary grants at DOT, as well as formula *transit* grants, but - mystery of mysteries- none of the highway formula grant programs other than planning.
