coding & stuffs for the user-owned web ~ cofounder @basic.tech
yep they are compatible but built for different use cases!

atproto is meant for public social data, Basic is built for private personal data (docs, work, files, context, memory, etc)

hopefully within the next month or two! aiming to have the atproto integrations fully done before the atproto conf early next year.

might also open up the project as a bounty for any interested open source devs!

no frankenstiening needed, they are meant to be very compatible. i showed a little demo about how this could work, but the idea is Basic is the private data pds that will work alongside atproto for public social data

so how does this all work?

using "protocol composition" (a phrase i borrowed from @bmann.ca )

combing atproto with basic: an open protocol for private PDS's. by using both protocols side by side, you get the benefits of public social content with private data.
November 25, 2025 at 5:43 PM
yes exactly!! Basic is almost like atproto for private data

data is stored locally first, and then synced to a private PDS thats created when you first sign up. for now, we are just hosting all the PDS' but they will ofc be federated & self hostable.

thanks tynan! honestly it needs a lot of work still, but we're planning some big updates soon 😅

happy to chat about your overall experience with Basic so far, if you have any thoughts/feedback!

tsk is open source. you can contribute to it, learn from it, fork it to make it your own :)

i want people to see how fun it is to build personal software.

check it out & let me know what you think. if you're curious about building on Basic, reach out!

tsk is local-first.
stores all data locally, then syncs automatically in the background.

that means: no loading spinners, instant UI, works offline, syncs to all my devices.

built on @basic.tech - a platform for building personal software. tsk has no backend or servers.

the schedule aims to give you a holistic view of your day, trying to answer the question "what does my day look like today?"

it also acts like a historical archive, so you can see your schedule evolve over time.
November 24, 2025 at 4:54 PM
the core idea: tasks only get done if they're scheduled on the calendar.

tasks are things to be done, and anything that needs doing needs a time to be done at.

in tsk, when you work on a task or mark it complete, that activity gets logged to the calendar.

If you’ve ever asked:

– How will we talk to software in 5 years?
– Can the web be more alive?
– What does post-UI even mean?

Then you should hack with us. Shape the future.

Imagine interacting with the web through voice, video, memory — not HTML.

An agent knows you.
It talks like you.
And it acts on your behalf.

But we’ve barely scratched the surface of what this future looks like…
