Can anyone tell me why the BCCDC is tracking SARS-CoV-2 lineages in wastewater but not influenza A subtypes (like highly pathogenic avian influenza strains)? Wouldn't it be nice if we knew when HPAI was making the rounds in urban areas? Maybe the @bcgreens.bsky.social should talk to us for ideas.

In Mid-April, GISAID uploads were switched from a weekly schedule to a fortnightly one, and each upload now contains a fraction the number of samples in previous uploads. It now also takes the BCCDC longer to submit the sample data relative to the day each sample was taken. 9/?

Just as a new wave starts, the BCCDC / Metro Vancouver has reduced their wastewater monitoring to 8 stations (from 12), one time (from 3) per week, and updated every 2 (instead of 1) weeks.
