authors you have the chance to do the funniest thing right now
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

The world is deeply unserious about dealing with climate change. We need to reduce emissions by 50% in 5 years and we're nowhere near that.
World’s climate plans fall drastically short of action needed, analysis shows
Recent plans submitted to UN by more than 60 countries would cut carbon by only 10%, a sixth of what is needed

i may have successfully flashed a bios with a probe! at least, the chassis intrusion detection lights are flashing, and i'd disabled those on the previous BIOS.

have to wait until the CMOS battery recharges, now... and might have to put it into a chassis to change the BIOS settings again >.>

I have successfully read the contents of a BIOS using a chip probe, yay

now it's time to unpack the capsule file of the update I want to write to it, and try replacing the contents

it's so much fun, actually. I haven't been to many conferences, but if the energy is like this, I absolutely see the appeal

HEY here's a new piece for @crikey.com.au!

Sparked by David Suzuki's recent comments, but more broadly in response to the recent rise of performative fatalism: the reassuring, widely popular and lazy idea that fighting back against fossil fuels is worthless

Climate fatalism is just as wrong as climate denial — it's never 'too late' for change
Veteran environmentalist David Suzuki believes the time has passed us to stop climate change. He's wrong.

Global average temperature is expected to rise to almost 2C above preindustrial in the next five years, according to the WMO, with falls in crop yields and more than a third of the world’s population being exposed to extreme heat.

People, I'm sorry but we have to deal with this. Later is too late.
