Hiking the UK’s wild places and digging into their history is my passion. I've just started a new publication. Expect trail guides, historical deep dives, and tales from my rambles. Let’s tread through time together! Ramblethroughtime.substack.com
So yesterday I was watching a Jackdaw perched on top of a chimney. Spotting a perfect photo opportunity, I grabbed my phone, only for it to fly away, and I thought I’d missed it. Then today, while looking through yesterday’s photos, I realized I’d actually captured it in flight! So happy!☺️

While on a ramble, I stumbled upon a grave that has stayed with me ever since. Sambo’s Grave at Sunderland Point is a poignant reminder of a forgotten past. I returned to pay my respects and share his story. Read the full piece on my Substack:

See a ruin? I see Easby Abbey’s refectory alive canons sneaking rolls, stained glass glowing. A 12th-century gem dissolved in 1536, now whispering history. Full story on Substack:

So happy! I spotted this Roe Deer on my ramble up Arnside Knott today. Although very common in the UK, they never fail to put a smile on my face.

Lovely views across the Solway Firth today, looking over towards Scotland from Silloth, Cumbria, England.

Sunday's short ramble from Brougham Castle to Brougham Hall, near Penrith, England, led me to the charming St. Wilfred’s Chapel. Built in 1658 by Lady Anne Clifford on a site used for worship since the 1300s, this red sandstone gem is just one of the reasons I love UK rambles.

I'm quite impressed with the zoom on my phone. Managed to snap this pic of an Oyster Catcher while out on the canal.

Can you spot the face?

I spotted this today while out on the Lancaster Canal, believed by local heritage to be a masons mark, a symbol left by stone masons to identify their work, although there’s no official records.

Spotted this mushroom while out walking in the woods. Does anybody know what it is? And is it poisonous?

I really do love old architecture. Whether it's a majestic castle, crumbling ruin, or a pretty windmill.

Lytham Windmill, pictured, was built around 1805. It is a stunning example.

Standing proud on Lytham Green, Lytham St Anne's, Lancashire, it makes a beautiful backdrop for photographs.
