Happy New Year! Finally submitted my essay on the botanical explorations of Samuel Boykin (1786-1848) in the Chattahoochee Valley, based on his letters with John Torrey in the New York Botanical Garden archives and his specimens in the NYBG herbarium. It's a 2-parter, 1st part out in sprg/sum 2026.

And, tonight, the network's flagship news program -- 60 Minutes -- ran a clip show of old celeb interviews to "celebrate the movies" rather than put together an episode focused on what's going on in Minnesota.
The person who publishes the Free Press — where the words “Minneapolis” and “Minnesota” never appear tonight — also runs CBS News.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara: "People have had enough. This is the third shooting in less than 3 weeks. The MPD went the entire year last year recovering about 900 guns from the street, arresting hundreds of violent offenders, and we didn't shoot anyone ... this is not sustainable."

Please don't blame National Park Service staff for these removals. They are the ones who developed the exhibits and stressed the importance of highlighting the enslaved on site day in and day out. #NationalParks

National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.
