Nova has flicked her two cards in triumph, leaning over the table with an air of victory. A drawing of Vesta and Vex, two male demons with long dark hair that blends in together between them. Vesta tilts his head with a rueful smile towards the other, almost as though he's going in for a kiss, with one hand reaching up to his face, but within it are two graphic golden lines, mirroring the border of the piece, as though he's driving a blade into Vex's heart. Vex grins back at him, at ease, as though willing him to come closer. The background is notably darker on Vex's side of the piece. A drawing of Fenris, Hawke, and Anders from Dragon Age 2. They're running from something, weapons drawn, with Anders leading the way urgently, and Fenris looking back behind them with concern.

if you're one person making a comic by yourself, don't treat yourself like you should function on the same level as comics that have multiple people working on them. your backgrounds can be squiggles and colors.

allow yourself room to be abstract with details and give yourself some grace

never put more than 75% effort into a single page. Save the major background for the establishing shot and imply the rest through gradients, color blurs if you have to.

If a background doesn't add anything you couldn't tell the story without, you might not need one. several jobs for one person!
