Areas in #Melbourne 's growing west like #Melton and Wyndham Vale need frequent, higher capacity suburban trains to cut crowding and keep people moving. Electrification done with track expansion would also help speed up journeys from Geelong and Ballarat.

What matters more is urbanism:

The street network

The density

The freedom of uses

The clustering around rail

Our fares are cheap for long distance journeys, but for short distances, the most expensive in Australia. The State Government should bring back a cheaper short distance fare to ensure public transport is affordable, and cheaper than driving.

Do the opposite of what Australia's merger of the Department of Immigration with the Customs and Border Protection Service achieved: put immigration bureaucrats who see their mission as nation-building back at the top of the immigration policy hierarchy, with the enforcement entity being subordinate
The way for a Democrat to actually "abolish ICE/CBP" in practice is probably to create a cabinet-level Department of Immigration, put a bunch of competent bureaucrats in charge and reorg ICE and BP under it.

These proposals from Infrastructure Victoria to extend tram lines make a lot of sense. They'd make Melbourne's trams more useful for more people by better connecting to railway stations and other suburban destinations.
How about it, Vic govt?

Truly unhinged comments from anti-housing activists – and as a bonus you can see me focusing so hard on Standing Normally.
