She/her, norwegian/english, a splendid cat, very tired

I'm not good at ALT-texting and it's a lot to do with self censure, I know why alt-text is good, I still can't always do it, sorry!
Uni-ball Vision RT (0.8)

Rollerball, big, fights me when I make my marks. (Skipping, even blotching)

Unfortunately the internet is now informing me of all the different versions Uni puts under one catchy name like 'Vision', so I guess I can't know anything about, uh, 'Vision ELITE' and whatnot

Kuretake Fudegokochi (F, I think)

It is a FEATURE of a good inker that it gives you a lot of ink, but it's also the drawback for inattentive lefthanders, as shown. Excellent pen for producing beautiful ink-black lines - IF staying aware of where you touch the paper, and don't need it to insta-dry

Pentel Brush Sign pen
This is a good, cheap, easily handled brushpen that comes in many colors. However, if you make linework and want to add watercolor or alcohol markers for colors, you will want the version that is permanent - because this one will wash out and smear and make a mess.

Stabilo Sensor F
I think these are just slightly better constructed versions of the same basic fineliner. Actually remember scooping this up with some other not-seen-before cheaps in a Glasgow office supply shop. It is good at being what it is, but I see no reason to go out of my way for one

Ja!

Game character creators? That's proportions, colors, expressions, composition. Picking clothes? That's colors, textures, shapes, draping, stylizing. Spreading topping on a pizza? Patterning, colors, material traits. Decorating rooms? You get it. All of it feeds into doodling my little doodles. 😌

Mark-making, drawing, has been INTERESTING to me my whole life, obviously, bc otherwise I just wouldn't be doing it. My adhd pushes me into New Interests all the friggin time, and it's just -lucky- for me that "drawing" holds a lot of interrelated activities/concepts/doodads.

Even to a hyperrealist artist, I think it has to be at least 90% acquired knowledge of tools, light/shadow, and composition - so knowledge of the ACT of creating the image. The act is the art. The creating is the creativity. (Didn't know this would tie in w my attitude re: genAI, it just did 🤷‍♀️)

November 26, 2025 at 8:29 AM

Stabilo point 88
...It felt nice to use this one but that's 100% because of the previous roller/ballpoint messes. I got a big set of these as a kid and loved them. If I ever need multicolor fineliners again I could easily opt for these, but, well. Shrug?

Edding 1200 Superior Quality
It's a basic black marker. That's all. Bullet tip, no fancy swish. Only reason to GET one of these would be for writing addresses on large post packages

Pentel EnerGel 0.7
This is good for lengthy handwriting, for which I apparently apply more pressure than I do for doodling - as a gel roller that's pretty much as expected. Probably perfect for planner/journal effects.

Pilot Supergrip-G (F)
Yer very basic ballpoint/biro! Grew up drawing with Bics and I actually WANT to explore the kind of pencil-like effects you can get, but I'd need to find a slightly less resistant pen than this - it needs a harder baseline press than mine is, so the marks are all strained.

Faber-Castell Free Ink Roller fine (0.7)
This is a little thick and clunky in test, and there's a chance it's because it's old. I'll try a new one if I come across it, but it seems to have fallen out of standard shop selections, so prolly no.
November 25, 2025 at 11:30 AM
Pilot Shunpitsu, PROBABLY. The pen has no identifying words I can read on it, but that's the closest match in some image searching.

This is a good ultra fast-drying brushpen, but a bit chonky for sketchbook use - it needs longer/bigger lineshapes to show dynamics, tiny just makes it uniformly thick

Pilot V-pen (M)
This one is neat, but very redundant in my arsenal.

I have absolutely no idea where/why/how a lot of these pens came to be in my stash
