Disabled. Old. Terminally grumpy. Kind. I'm basically the best parts of Capaldi's Doctor in a body that's falling apart. Still a white cat on the Internet. I love to learn new things. TTRPGs, comics, Hallmark movies, weird stuff. He / Him.
Gotcha. As far as I recall, the only reason a screen reader might repeat itself is if there's a picture of a book page, for example, as part of a post/message/etc., and that text is added to the alt text and is ALSO in body text. Otherwise, alt text should be different.

Screen readers, to the best of my recollection, have ALWAYS read plain text (kinda their whole deal), so I'm not sure what you're trying to say then.

I betchya Patrick O'Donovan would be shocked by to know that many have multiple accounts on just one social media service.

To illustrate: although I don't use any of them right now, there are about 7 accounts on twitter linked to e-mail addresses I control. On Bluesky? perhaps 3 or 4.

Requiring us to tie our contributions to just 1 identifier makes that much much harder.

This isn't a matter of anonymity, or even pseudonymity.

It's a matter of allowing for the opportunity of legal participation in society in the widest range of possibilities.

Do you think alt text is only for posts that include gifs that have text in them?

You really don't know anything about accessibility best practices, do you?

Welp. Either The New York Times or Bari Weiss' CBS News will be announcing a new hire any day now ...

It's the Emperor's New Clothes all over again except she thinks he's draped in finery instead of being a rough beast slouching toward Bethlehem.

(Seriously, how prescient was Yeats' The Second Coming?)

This reads like Heidegger filmed through the lens of The Hills.

I wish there was something I could do to help besides saying that you aren't alone. But if you can think of something I can do to help, please let me know. I owe you at least one.
