I’m in the John Snow Pub in London. Drinking, no mask. That’s so rare for me to not wear a mask. It will be very sad irony if I get COVID

So… I did a thing I'm proud of. Grateful to @thewhn.bsky.social for publishing my piece on masking at work, long-term health, and staying grounded in a chaotic world. If you’ve ever felt stuck between clowns and jokers… you’ll get it. whn.global/stuck-in-the...

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Scripps Research Institute have developed a groundbreaking UNIVERSAL coronavirus vaccine that triggers STONG immune responses AND shows promise in neutralizing MULTIPLE coronaviruses, including those responsible for causing COVID-19, MERS, AND even the “common cold.” 🧪🧵⬇️

I’ve crossed the Ross River, stood at the 4 Corners, seen horse stables at Hendra, touched the replica broad street pump in London, been to Oropouche in Trinidad and driven through Tulare County. #Emerging #Zoonoses #HumanAnimal #OneHealth

Space for some optimism with regards #OneHealth
Let’s hope that there is true co-equal sharing of power between all of these US agencies in a manner reflective of true OneHealth.

Alas!
If I ever come across a coral snake, my final thoughts will be pedantically preoccupied with the poem about Red/Yellow…some fellow-red/black…Jack? Stand back? Don’t take flack?
…coral snake wins!

And who starts a modern sentence with “alas”?

Today I’m thinking about my Australian friends on the Christmas Day anniversary of Cyclone Tracy. 50 years ago in 1974, Tracy laid waste to Darwin and NT in general, in ways that changed a generation. #Cyclone #Disaster #Darwin #AussieResilience

Just like in response to 9/11 when we created the DHS, we need a new Federal Department of #OneHealth. COVID could have taken us there, certainly H5N1 (et al H’s & Ns) should take us there, assuming the federal govt is serious about serving the public health needs of its constituents.

Dr Maxmen’s excellent article reminds us why the #4thEstate is so vital to a healthy democracy. Government is accountable to its people. Good journalism, not only documents events and shares them with the masses, it also challenges the status quo, demanding better. Nicely done @amymaxmen.bsky.social

If Isabella’s theory is correct, we are certainly entering a new medieval era of public health.
Why is being right-populist/extremist and anti-vax so closely linked? I am wondering about this a long time, because it's all about having children, many of them, and traditional mums and pregnancies and babies and all that. So you should think vaccines would be popular to keep kids alive & healthy

A reminder that the pandemic is not over. The only thing that ended back in May ‘23 was the legal emergency framework. The public communication around that fact was devastatingly poor and has allowed folks to think they can ignore COVID. And yet Excess deaths are happening and can’t be ignored.

4 changes to integrate ecology into animal + human medicine:
1. hire faculty in human, veterinary + public health units who are trained in ecological sciences
2. develop core curricula with new ecological approaches to disease in animal + humans

Folks here from algorithmically-fiddled apps complain of a lack of engagement.

It’s on all of us (to some extent)

“Likes” don’t really do anything here.

When you like someone’s post it just creates a notification TO THEM ONLY that you liked it.
