Well there's nothing else of interest or excitement going on in Ohio so it's nice that they have a bone thrown every now and then.

Given Machado's lavishing of Trump with severely undue praise, it certainly would not be the first time a potential leader of one country has entreated a much more powerful neighbour to overthrow the current regime and install them as leader.

One also wonders to what extent the recent recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize is colluding with this, considering she herself advocated for US military strikes on Venezuela to oust Maduro, and has also praised the US murdering defenceless fishermen as "absolutely correct".

Same! I'm intrigued to see if they can do anything differently. America-centrism really hurts these platforms at times I feel.

One of the biggest problems is most of these platforms, Bluesky, X, Meta, etc. are all run by sociopaths.

It's not so much they're deciding not to use it, but they're using it a lot less in terms of hours spent, content uploaded, etc.

What is encouraging is that social media use, especially among younger populations, is declining. While I think social media will always be there and a part of our lives, the degree to which it will impact us will vary significantly.

In many ways technology is outpacing our capacity for social evolution, and meld that into societies that are built to embrace, value, and reward the worst of human impulses as the virtues of plucky go-getters, it's no surprise that social media is a total shitshow.

And the fact Jenny is an actual critic with honest and integrity, and not just a flailing grifting dipshit like Drinker et al.

My dad was a porter for the NHS and often said the same. Doctors were obnoxious but nurses were super kind.

"Why sure! I will just break the law for you because you're apparently too busy to scrawl a signature but not too busy to phone someone up and yell at them. You have sold me, sir!"

Can you tell I've worked in customer service? 🤣

Massholes living up to their reputation?
November 29, 2025 at 5:29 PM
I often wonder why people like that are even in a profession that requires you to care for people.
November 29, 2025 at 5:28 PM
One can't help but conclude that a big reason why the profession of nursing is so demeaned why that of doctor is so respected, is because the former is traditionally women-dominated, and the latter men-dominated.

Oh come now, you KNOW Gene would have shown that if the censors would have allowed him!

Similarly, when Seven joins the crew, I'd have had her in her Borg suit for several episodes, and have her removing pieces as a conscious choice on her part to reclaim her humanity.
November 29, 2025 at 2:46 AM
That way, their integration and putting on the Starfleet uniform would have been more of a conscious choice as the two crews realise they're better off together than apart, rather than the implication we got which is "I impressed them into our ranks like an 18th century sailing frigate!"
November 29, 2025 at 2:46 AM
It never sat right with me that all that happened off screen, and by the end of the pilot they're all in Starfleet uniforms. I don't think the Maquis would have agreed to be conscripted like that so easily. In fact I'd have preferred it if they were in their Maquis rags until the end of Season 1.

Damn is that a bittersweet movie.
November 29, 2025 at 1:30 AM
Indeed. I still think the effort should be made though, and make them go on record.
November 28, 2025 at 10:58 PM
Judging by some elected to the position, it's never been a requirement before so why start now?
