Not to oversimplify, but: IF there is ambiguity around whether the mere generation of sexualised deepfakes is illegal, a one-line amendment to Coco’s Law would fix it. Stipulate for the avoidance of doubt that intimate images include artificial likenesses. Then Grok cannot transmit any such material

In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties.

The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized.

Read it again: 88% of songs on Spotify have been demonetized.

Many people think immigration happening on larger scale than is really the case
The report by the ESRI found that many people overestimated the proportion of people in Ireland who were born in another country.

I find it astonishing that the idea that children should upload selfies to X as part of a state-mandated age verification scheme is still being floated.
Particularly unhappy with the attempt to move discussion off the X illegal abuse image factory to the pre-existing Garda wish to bring in age verification to allow surveillance of all adults and children’s access of *lawful* material.

These are incomparable issues in terms of seriousness.

The same prepared statements then go on to complain about the lack of age verification surveillance, which is to say they want laws to monitor adults & children accessing legal material while avoiding systemically addressing mass production of unlawful material.

Priorities need adjusting here.

New Gist: The Abuse Factory

It shouldn't be difficult to act swiftly and without hesitation when the question posed is "Is it OK to work with the child sexual abuse material factory?" But our state failed this most straightforward of tests this week.

When you compromise on ethics, humiliation is always around the corner. They already compromised when they stayed through ALL the bad Musk/X behavior. But it never ends. They will be asked to write off nastier, more embarrassing actions. Sunk costs and brand attachment keep them there.

In case you've seen the story about “grok now only generates images for paid users”, it's untrue. Apparently everyone just reported it because… it was what grok told them 🤦🏼

No, Grok hasn’t paywalled its deepfake image feature
X’s sexual deepfake machine is still running, despite Grok saying otherwise.

One reason I feel like I'm going mad is, even if Musk did immediately halt Grok and issue a grovelling apology - rather than PAYWALLING IT - he should *still* be prosecuted and his website banned. Very obviously! You don't get out of CSAM charges by just stopping. AND HE STILL HASN'T STOPPED.

OK so now they’re consciously trying to make money from the CSAM-generating feature.

Ireland wanted all these tech companies based here. But with that comes the responsibility to regulate them. The current government seems reluctant to do that, despite the actions of X being illegal under Irish law. I'm astonished by the lack of action.
The relevant law allows for significant fines for companies, and for fines and up to 14 years in prison for directors or officers of companies that commit offences with their consent, connivance or neglect. There's no gap in the law here. X needs to be subject to criminal investigation.

They just innocently created the software that does it, and innocently haven't done anything to stop it, and are innocently profitting from it.
Minister for Media Patrick O'Donovan has said X is not responsible for making child sexual abuse images, but that responsibility lies with the people who use the website to make the images.

He added that technology is moving too quickly for laws to keep pace.

I'm sorry to keep posting about this but this should be a government-destroying scandal at this point. How the fuck are you not coming down like a ton of bricks on this? There could hardly be a less ambiguous situation, and yet...!!!
My word. (Again.)

Media Minister Patrick O'Donovan: "At the end of the day, it's the choice of a person to make these images... technology is moving so fast... even if the law is changed there's no doubt about... the advances are far faster than law is able to respond..."

I can't get over the phrase AI nudification tools. Tools like it's something useful. Tools like it's something your job recommends for work. Tools like it's something you'd be using in day to day life.

As a small child me and my sister thought it'd be funny to sharpen a pencil and stick it between sofa cushions for our dad to sit on. We forgot about it and I leaned across the couch. I still have a little grey dot on my stomach.
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.
