Grid Ops nerd (BA and a TOP again, thank goodness), public power enthusiast, and basic-est of bitches. He/him. 4Loko should make a PSL flavor.

Occasional submarine and infrastructure opinions.

Bike commuting is best commuting.
Heinlein's Heinlein for better and worse, and Haldeman did something amazing.

Heinlein got kicked out of the Navy before WW2 due to illness and was a MacArthur stan. Haldeman had a real shitty time in Vietnam.

It shows in their writing.

uhhh this actually reminds me a lot of how LLMs function at a basic level too - predicting tokens based on proximity & context, etc 😬 ...so we're teaching kids to read like AI & saying AI level is good enough

In BF Skinner's experiments, rats would be given opiods if they hit a lever. Skinner discovered that a lever that dispensed the opiods reliably would get the rats to take as much as they wanted then stop, but a lever that irregularly and unreliably dispensed the drugs would get them to overdose.
This is a side note but something I find striking is how little engagement these influencers get compared to pre-Elon twitter, but it doesn’t seem to register with them

It's motivated reasoning. They attach their ego to the clout they imagine they have through their reach on Twitter and fear losing that pillar of their identity if they leave the site bsky.app/profile/stol...
I don’t get why that key detail is so hard for them—they seem to genuinely believe they’re too smart for it?

In the same breath, 175 years ago an abolitionist was caned near to death by a slave state senator. Sumner (abolitionist) came back eventually, and Brooks resigned. Brooks was re-elected.

I'm saying that a committed antifascist may be forced to resign but history says they can be voted back in.

Capitulating to a dude who's being jeered at a football game during a shutdown is really quite something.

I called and thanked both for voting no on cloture during the unoffical tally a couple hours ago.

Thanks to you I'll be making a call about Schumer tomorrow.
