My fave thing in class is when profs say they don't know something, and you can tell it's not a lazy "I don't know" but in a real, "I really have wrestled with this all my life, and here are some of the perspectives and my takes, but ultimately we are working with something difficult," kinda way.

Our social inability to get rid of things that are manifestly bad and harmful - not “on balance” but absolutely- (like sports betting, AI slop, etc) is either a triumph of liberalism or a sign of our inexcusable fecklessness and decadence.

The more I grow, the more I realize how important the "Nick Lidstrom Wisdom" is: You gotta know when to finish and/or walk away, & you gotta know how to do so with grace/humility. It's a good thing to step down when you're the hero & still have something left. Walk away leaving them wanting a bit.

Just a note: “religious education” is not the same thing as religious indoctrination, and we would actually be a lot better off with more of the former in our schools.
