A beautiful future America cannot fathom.
With a gigantic shopping mall (Canada’s third largest), adjacent office and condo towers, lots of street front retail (mostly restaurants) and green space and a library, Metrotown feels like a mix of North York Centre, Square One, and Scarborough Town Centre (when the SRT was still going)

French justice system cancels the A69 highway project between Toulouse & Castres: It’s the first time in French history that a highway has been stopped because its environmental costs outweighed its other benefits.

Canada is not going to do high speed rail. We are not equipped for the challenge.

This isn't political - no party can do this unless they *truly* wanted to. The Liberals have an effete PR announcement and the Conservatives don't want it at all. It's *not* going to happen.

Toronto Council: “Sure, but *we’re* different…”
Traffic has decreased.

273,000 fewer vehicles entered Manhattan below 60 Street from Monday to Friday last week.

I mapped the entire 1955 passenger rail system by service frequency. I encourage you to share it, @taras-grescoe.com

The lanes on University, which Doug likes to cite as "causing congestion for ambulances", were designed with the hospitals to be used by ambulances, specifically.

It’s shocking & damning that there are like 3 Toronto architects that / who could pull off something this clean & simple.

IT’S NOT HARD, PEOPLE!

When I was a kid growing up in Brampton, Woodbine Centre & Fantasy Fair was a favourite family day trip. The mall and indoor amusement park is still open, but I doubt it will last much longer.

Woodbine Centre: the end of a Fantasy
Woodbine Centre, built in 1985, was an adventure for a child of the 1980s and 1990s. The once-thriving mall has hit hard times and will likely see redevelopment in the next decade.

It shouldn't, in fact, be "something pleasant" to drive downtown, Lily.
"It is painful to drive downtown," says Councillor Lily Cheng. "And it shouldn't be painful. It should be something pleasant. Does it have to be at full speed? Maybe not .. but we have to acknowledge there are people in our city who do not have the luxury of taking transit."

Doug says he wants to spend unknown amounts of money boring a car tunnel under Toronto. 50 years ago, Paris started constructing (& continues to expand) the RER: (mostly) bi-level trains going 120kph under the city, for cheaper and with *far higher* capacity. Just so we all remember where we’re at…
