I'm never gonna escape my stupid restaurant job
It seems almost unavoidable at this point that we are headed for a deep, deep recession. Just based on 200K+ federal firings & pullback of contracts, the March employment report (to be released April 4) seems certain to show bigger job losses than any month ever outside of a few in 2008-9 and 2020.

Sitting in traffic, huffing fumes, and screaming while listening to talk radio is an important component of conservative culture. Makes sense that they're trying to defend it.

Thomas Gieryn has a great article that shows how cities become "truth spots" in urban studies, placeless stand-ins for all urban life. Chicago played this role in early 1900s sociology, LA did in the 90s, and SF does today, with scholars treating local patterns as universal urban experiences
