I tried various ideas to get what I was looking for, but in the end, I just wanted the silhouette to be broken up. So, little quad pyramids with their normals sampled from the body. Makes them virtually invisible from the front, but pop out on the sides.

Yeah, debating some ideas there. I like the idea of a bit of bouncing to a silent beat.
