This also applies to humans. Telling someone that they're bad is usually a poor way of getting them to improve themselves.

Democrats spanning from Jim McGovern to Seth Moulton have publicly called for abolishing ICE and there are clearly Dem votes for a shutdown so naturally "why aren't Dems saying anything?" remains the easiest way for low-effort clout chasers that don't pay attention to anything to rack up RTs

Remember you don't have to watch the videos. You are allowed to just trust honest people who describe what happens.

FYI: Dems in the senate can't defund ICE. ICE is funded by the Big Ugly Bill. Shutting down DHS on this vote wouldn't touch ICE, but it would shut down FEMA, TSA, Coast Guard, etc. Shutting down ICE requires taking back Congress in the midterms. Dismantling DHS requires the White House in 2028.

Really good and nuanced piece on landmarking in NYC. Not mentioned in this piece, but particularly relevant was that for the Adams admin these districts (which were rushed through!) were explicitly part of a political trade.

Preservation Has Costs. Housing Is One of Them.
Should City Hall reconsider landmarking Flatbush?

Actually, Aragorn, the Age of Men never existed. The "this is un-Gondorian" posts in response to orc raids terrorizing villagers... I beg you to look in a tome (I would say a Palantír but let's start small) & read up on the Drowning of Númenor, Isildur's Curse, the corruption of the Easterlings...

instead of posting on this site about how great it feels to bully Americans, how about Europeans get their leaders to exert pressure on our government, including by doing things like restricting travel and sanctioning US companies. stop talking about how you want to hurt me and actually do it

The choice is impeachment and removal or calamity for the United States. I don't see how anybody watching Trump's speech in Davos can draw any other conclusion. He's a senile madman.

There should be a rule that if you are a Known Sports Poster you can say things like “holy fucking shit” with zero context but if you are primarily a Known Politics Poster that gets you like a two day ban

I think a good strategy for your non-leftist social media presence (ie everywhere but here) is to give this photo - the remains of Danish soldiers returning in coffins after being killed in America's war in Afghanistan - as wide an audience as possible. Remind people who we're betraying

I watch futbol and I would enjoy watching the World Cup but I think a World Cup boycott is one of the more effective actions Europe can take, and less economically harmful to themselves compared to restricting trade or tourism.

Trump and current US systems really suck right now, in that we have to be talking about an incredibly evil possible invasion of Greenland right now instead of a tragic bears loss or Dunk and Egg.

Social media really sucks in that this leads to interliberal infighting instead of solidarity.

That pass to take the bears into overtime gave me joy that our loss cannot take away.

My most right wing opinions are against unions, so it's really impressive to get even me interested in a strike.
every single successful general strike in US history has had union backing through the local AFL-CIO

this is the first time it’s been called for since the 1940s

Still unhappy that the Pitt won an Emmy over Andor, but I'm really enjoying it right now regardless.

Unfortunately too much of the convo on here about it is complaints that one of the doctors likes AI lol.

the reason people on here constantly believe Democrats are selling them out/that everyone is doomed/other things downstream of a pervasive atmosphere of harassment is because not enough of you are willing to block "cool" people in your circles who repeat bullshit

Uh, so… guys, this needs to be configurable. This was *the* way to work around not being able to turn off reposts per person in Following at the moment… (without resorting to building a custom feed)
Wait nooo, that's not useful! Can I turn it off? I literally only use lists because I put people whose reposts I don't want to see there, otherwise I'd just follow them…. :|

The US Treasury and IRS issued draft guidance for the "no tax on tips" provision of Republicans' tax law.

It's open for comment, so we submitted one asking how the provision would apply to a government official who accepts bags of cash in exchange for government contracts.
