Ghosts of Krampus Past, Day 3 pt II

In 2021 Trekell made Krampus-shaped painting panels and I painted three of them for an art show. It was one of the first big social things I did since the pandemic started. Many people I was there with got covid immediately thereafter.

Ghosts of Krampus Past, Day 3

2020-22
A Lady Krampus based on Bettie Page. She has the signature hairdo with shiny bangs, smooth double-curved horns and brown furry goat legs and a long tail. She's wearing a red satin corset with frilly trim and matching opera-length gloves. She's in a mostly profile, high stepping pose with her near leg held up. There's a frilly garter around that leg holding a silver dagger. Finally she's holding with each hand both ends of a black flogger, consisting of a long shaft with two leather straps at the end. A very domme-y Lady Krampus She has tall recurled goat horns and blue-gray furred goat legs and a long tail. Her hair is a cascade of blue dreadlocks down to her lower back. She has a menacing scowl on her face displaying her fangs. She's wearing a red leather, metal-studded harness. The breast cups have sharp looking claw-like metal ornaments around the top edges and spikes at the nipples. The outfit includes matching forearm bands and another studded band. around her left upper arm. Her right arm is held in the air cracking a long red leather whip. And her left arm is angled down, holding a large ornate two-pronged fork, tines down. Digital illustration of Krampus. Walking in the woods of an early winter evening, with the sun dropping behind the bare trees, it is your ill fortune to have encountered the Krampus. A red-eyed demon's face, fanged teeth and a long vicious tongue, crowned by four large curling horns. His entire body from long neck, to claws, to cloven hooves, to tail is covered in dark, thick, curling fur. He wears a leather harness across his torso, decorated with three large tarnished brass bells. He carries a long leather lash. he's point at you as he pauses coming through the trees. You know you haven't been good enough...

Ghosts of Krampus Past, Day 2

Posting some Ghosts of Krampus Past, leading up to Krampusnacht on Friday. I've made a lot of Krampuses, if you were unaware. These are from 2012-2015.
A screen printed Krampus design from 2009. An extremely goaty, brown, furry Krampus with curling horns hunching down to grab a little victorian dandy boy who is in the process of destroying a pocket watch with a hammer. Krampus has a large red bag slung over his back that clearly contains other children he's picked up on his rounds. A decorative frame reads: 'Achtung! Sei gut! Krampus kommt!' (Look out! Be good! Krampus is coming!) Krampus from 2013. Our blue-tinted hero drives a big wooden wagon, as he cracks a whip over the heads of two children in a wooden yoke who are pulling it. In the rear of the wagon is a large cage full of other children who are also reassessing their behavior the past year. This was drawn for a holiday card for my employer at the time but at the last minute *someone* decided it was innappropriate for official holiday greetings and was never sent. A hard-edge vector rendering of a furry blue Krampus, crouching on his goat legs and waggling his long tongue at the viewer. He holds a bundle of switches in one hand and a three pronged fork in the other and chains dangle from bands on each wrist. Yellow type above and below reads 'Gruss vom Krampus'. From 2014. Black and white line drawing of a never-colored Krampus from 2015. Pretty much my basic guy: horns, tongue, goat legs, furry tail, some ripped abs in this instance, holding a bundle of switches. He's got a basket on his back which holds a weeping little girl, and he's holding up a screaming little boy by the collar of his pajama top.

She has long, full sleeves, and is holding a staff with an elaborate crook at the end with a glowing, magical light hanging from it. Standing with her in this huge, indistinct snow field is The Yule Cat. Something like a black Norwegian Forest Cat but the size of a smallish elephant. In the distance are mountains, stars, and aurora borealis.

Now is the time of Yule and Monsters

The ground all around is covered in snow, and the background inside a rough-cut framing shape is a spooky forest under a night sky with crescent moon, stars, and swirls of howling wind. Part of the top of the frame widens out into a red banner reading 'Gryla & Jólakötturinn'. Now get out there and try not to get eaten.

White Saturday
Looking over the River Park boat launch across the river. Everything that isn't water or bare tree branches is pretty much white. Heron Corner, where the north branch channel meets the north branch of the Chicago River. River rapids, bare trees and lots of snow. River Park athletic fields. Basically just a distant line of bare trees dividing white fields from white sky.

Black Friday (2021) was about as bad as I expected. A lot of bad writing and half assed ideas stranding a cast that could have made something more watchable. The female lead was the little girl from Pan’s Labyrinth! But this production card gave me chills:

Black Friday (1940) is a very weird Jekyll & Hyde story via a brain transplant (?!) between a gangster and an English professor. Lugosi was clearly there just to pad the cast list a bit. Karloff had more to do but much of it was just having a mustache. But it included this closeup:

Here are some commissions I've done on this deal, but I want to be very clear it's not required to be cats...
