In national security circles, “smart” doesn’t mean what you think it means: “He wants to keep on blowing boats up until Maduro cries uncle…And people way smarter than me on that say that he will.”
White House chief of staff Susie Wiles may have given up the game, admitting that the Trump administration’s strike on alleged “drug boats” in the Caribbean Sea is an effort to bring about regime change in Venezuela, rather than a war on drug trafficking. trib.al/vvRtkd9

The incoming chair of the House Subcommittee on Counterterrorism, Law Enforcement and Intelligence, Rep. August Pfluger, not so subtly links counterterrorism to the new Cold War and immigration. Surprised he didn’t add drug cartels but I didn’t read the full statement.

The magic word “preemption” has done a lot, maybe as much as has “terrorism,” to usher in the transnational authoritarianism that is coming to define the contemporary era.

You read this and it’s clear, on a basic editorial level, NYT doesn’t consider Palestinians fully human. Every Palestinian is presumed a cartoon terrorist, every Israeli a smol civilian. If you’re Arab, show trials by occupying armies and “admin detention” magically turn a hostage into a “prisoner”
What’s behind the uneven exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners?

The ceasefire is not an excuse to stop speaking about Gaza and Palestine. Now, more than ever, we must demand accountability. Everyone who participated in the slaughter of so many thousands of Palestinians must be punished. Israel cannot be allowed to repeat this.

Israel gets sixty more days of war? That’s not how ceasefires work.
NEW: A permanent ceasefire has been announced between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, to be fully implemented over the course of 60 days. This is a positive though much belated step, explains @nancyokail.bsky.social.
