Another opening ceremony ruined as neither BBC or Discovery will allow you to watch without inane commentators telling you what you can see.

I really hate this conflating of nationality and values

If a British value is good it should be defended because it's a good value, not because it's British. And if a British value is bad it shouldn't be defended, regardless of its nationality.
Keir Starmer attacks the racism of Reform and Matt Goodwin but then adds that "Britain has also been let down by a mindset on the left of politics that is too slow to defend core British values"

She actually says that grief will be one of those emotions.
Melania Trump: "It was wonderful to have so many world leaders with me on Saturday from all different fields, and we were celebrating it and the reception of the movie, of the film, was very warm ... the audience will experience many different emotions"

It's so exhausting to to be constantly told by American leaders that the defining policy of the 80 odd years during which the US became the most wealthy and powerful country in the history of the world was a grossly unfair failure for them.
US trade secretary Howard Lutnick really not mincing his words here at Davos: "We are here to make a v clear point: globalisation has failed the West and the USA. It's a failed policy. It's what the WEF has stood for, which is, export, offshore, find the cheapest labour in the world."

He's made this exact same sorta h do many times, surely somebody's asked him to list all the wars America won between the two world wars.
Trump: "We have officially renamed the Dept of Defense back to the original name, Dept of War. And remember we won World War 1, we won World War 2, we won everything in between. We won everything that came before. And then we brilliantly decided to change the name. We became politically correct"

Why can't the BBC just be more impartial towards President Trump, like GB News, says Nigel Farage.

I'd love it if the BBC refused to quote Trump again unless they quote verbatim the entire speech or tweet.

"they are from a foreign country". Trump wants only Americans to run the BBC.
It’s easy to see why Trump wants to destroy the world’s number one news source. We can’t let him.

The BBC belongs to all of us here in the UK.

The Prime Minister and leaders from across the political spectrum should be united in telling Trump to keep his hands off it.

"The electric grid's 200 years old. "
Trump on AI: "They're building their own electric utility plant. They become a utility if you think about it. They're building the utility & electric right alongside - this is where they have their transformers - they're building the most expensive electric plants you've ever seen. Some by nuclear."

Is this what Americans mean by "due process"? Presenting the prosecution case on TV before it gets to a jury.

Why does not one in the US government know how percentages work?
RFK Jr: "When my uncle was president, the fertility rate in this country was 3.5%. Today it is 1.6%. The replacement rate -- in other words the amount of fertility you need to keep your population even -- is 2.1%. We are below replacement. That is a national security threat to our country."

So the US navy is going to take care of the Democrats?

You're bankrupt? What happened to that $17 trillion the rest of the world gave you?
Ron Johnson: "In the private sector, when a company is bankrupt - and let's face it, our nation is bankrupt - employees are laid off & they have to go find jobs elsewhere. Which quite honestly shouldn't be that difficult if federal workers lose some jobs. In Wisconsin, you can't find enough workers"

They go from "everyone in the army had to be a manly hunk of muscle" to "everyone has to have pretty paper with gold lettering".
Trump to generals: "We have beautiful paper, the gorgeous paper. I said, 'throw a little more gold on it, they deserve it. I want the A paper not the D paper.' We used to sign a piece of garbage ... I want to use the big beautiful firm paper."

So many words just to say "we commit war crimes"
Hegseth: "We unleash overwhelming and punishing violence on the enemy. We also don't fight with stupid rules of engagement. We untie the hands of our warfighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt, and kill the enemies of our country. No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement."

He doesn't seem to know anything about it. Maybe they are planning a coup against him.
REPORTER: Secretary Hegseth is inviting military leaders from all over the world to a big meeting
