I've been slowly getting my condition back this fall, and finally had the confidence to give trail running a try again.

It went great! Felt good, and made nearly 10km. The pups had a blast and got to meet some friendly fellow huskies along the way.

More shots from our hike at Afton yesterday. The St. Croix river is low, allowing us to follow the beach all the way to the northern end of the park. We then climbed the bluffs to the top, and down again.

Wolfish husky Tonttu splashes in the shallows of the wide St. Croix river, which is bounded on both sides by low hills covered in bare trees waiting for winter snow. He faces towards the camera, brightly lit by low winter sun, a happy doggy smile on his muzzle and curved tail up in the air. On the far left edge of the scene, Siberian Husky Zeena's head is barely visible as she takes a slurp at the water. Zeena pauses while hiking along the riverbank of the St. Croix river, leading hiker Jeff. They are making a path between large rocks on an otherwise sandy beach. Zeena's eyes are closed, as if squinting at the bright sun which is shining down from behind them, creating a spray of bright sparkles on the calm waters of the river, and casting much of the rocks and trees into silhouette. Husky Zeena leads everyone up a dirt trail following a wooded valley that climbs the bluffs from the river to the top. She leads Jeff, while Tonttu follows, leading the photographer. A tree has fallen to land nearly horizontal across the valley, resting high enough to be out of reach of all the hikers, even the humans. Jeff pauses while his hiking partner Zeena investigates tall grasses along the side of a gravel path. Across the grass to the right is a low downhill ski slope with chair lifts. Several swaths of white indicate places where snow machines have been at work, but the slope is otherwise green grass.

Does Panther do barn hunt? Perhaps she was expecting something else to come out of that tube!
A lean, pointy-eared dog with white fur and a plumb colored jacket sniffs a clear plastic tube with holes drilled in it to let the rat inside breathe. A hand removes a pneumatic tube with a big number 4 on the side from a bank teller drive-up kiosk.
