I like books. Also politics, but I'm trying the 12 step detox programme. Food, music, travel and films get my interest too.

Lake District resident (well, give or take a mile or two).

Just binged the whole of the new #StrangerThings tonight. Wasn't expecting much, but it was as good, or better, than it's ever been. Can't wait for the next batch of episodes!

I'm so glad I'm not alone.

I hated the first film on an almost visceral level, and I'm normally fairly chilled about stuff I don't like but by Odin's braided beard it was so bad.
I am amazed that they actually made a third Now You See Me film when the first film was so utterly, mindbogglingly shit that I'm still angry about it a decade later.

"A man stands alone at the plate. This is the time for individual achievement. There he stands alone. But in the field, what? Part of a team. Teamwork... Looks, throws, catches, hustles. Part of one big team."

Communities need used-book shops.

As the trends in our world are increasingly standardized and entrenched by "predictive" technologies that stifle innovation and reduce human actions into economic categories...

We need a full range of possibilities for readers and communities to explore and share.

It's not often you read something as brilliantly researched, informative and entertaining as this by by golly Jon Savage has pulled it off. His history of the (many, many) sung & unsung gay & queer heroes of modern music is absolutely majesterial.

You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

I should just about survive.

Um. No. 👀
Introverts: do you ever just agree with someone to end the conversation and keep your peace because arguing feels pointless and you already know the truth, and you just want the talking to stop?

There's a fantastic Wallace and Gromit exhibition at the Harris in Preston. If you can go, you should.

It's finally happened.

I've got to the stage of life where after I wash out a jam jar I say to myself "I'll hang on to that, it's a good size for storing odds and ends in the garage".

Thoughts and prayers for my youth.

I used to tape my favourite songs off the top 40 on a Sunday. Kids these days...
everyone who spent the 90s laboriously and lovingly making mixtapes just dissolved into ancient dust

My hunt into the family tree has borne fruit! A distant(ish) relative has got in contact, and has knowledge of the family farm and assorted far flung great great uncles & cousins twice or thrice removed. Amazing stuff, really.

One bright thing about BlueSky, I've not once in nearly a year seen a post about that mad billionaire who wants to live forever. I can't even remember his name. Cuthbert something?

Making Shakshouka tonight, first time we've done one. Will either be a triumph or an excuse to order pizza.
