You know that hoary old trope of the man who looks at a painting of a great grandad and they’re identical. Well my son who has grown out his moustache and his hair sat on the sofa folded his arms and was such a double of my dad (and my memory of him when I was a kid) it took my breath away.

One of Stan Winston's skills was knowing how to hire the right people. I saw the amazing designs @liamsharp.bsky.social did for Joe Dante's "Small Soldiers"... they were identical to the finished film. Sadly, Stan was also good at taking all the credit, something even Jim Cameron mocked him for!

Little known fact: William Stout, (a superb artist) was mostly responsible for the look of the Predator, but Stan Winston was happy to take all the credit for it. William Stout told me he designed the Predator in one night 'cos they needed it in a hurry. If you known Stout's work, it's VERY him.

The thumbnails of this made it look like a fun wee digging game where you dig big long tracts of land to find buried treasure. A sort of surface digdug. Anyway that idea is up for grabs now if you want it.
Grand first day digging the Dane’s Cast in Co Down! Iron Age or Medieval linear earthwork running along the Newry Valley. We’ll know soon enough. Some nice postholes, a palisade slot and two big ditches and banks

“You’re not going to make me look like an idiot by putting me in a green suit and glueing table tennis balls to my body?” “Robert baby, that technology doesn’t even exist yet. Of course not. But before we begin here’s a black marker and I’ll need you to shave your head”

Reading Akira (ive had volume one for years and never actually found time To read it!) struck by the amazingly assured art and that the English translation is pretty good (“welcome To my humble commode”) but spotted this on a vehicle which probably would’ve meant nothing to me decades ago

Imagine if every immigrant to the UK fully integrated and subsumed who they were to become part of this deeply beige country. What a dull place it would be. Bring the colour of their cultures, the music, the sound, the flavours, the creativity, the passion. We are at our best as an alloy.
