Why are purple candles so hard to find in France? So now we have blue advent candles and that’s perfectly fine, but I’m trying to not start making my own pillar candles.

With Advent approaching, there is something Meister Eckhart would like you to know.

Christmas is starting to ramp up before the first Sunday of Advent here in Paris. Decorations continue to go up and the trees are showing up at shops!

Is this the persecution of the faithful I was warned about, growing up evangelical? My nationalist co-religionists are denying it now, but these are precisely the scenarios we were breathlessly schooled on, reading stories of saints and martyrs following Jesus at all costs.

Remember to plug in your pets before you go to bed. That way they will be ready to play in the morning!

I wish so deeply that there were a way to get people to stop asking “Are you going home for Thanksgiving / Christmas?”

I am a middle aged adult. The home that I have is the one live in, and calling anything aside from that “home” makes a whole lot of presumptions.

Well the barber I've been going to for the last 8+ years seems to have just vanished within the last couple weeks. Website and socials are gone. Marked perminantly closed on Google.

I'm not looking forward to finding a new person that I like. I already miss not needing to explain the cut I want.
Welp, I shouldn't have put off getting a haircut because it's now August in Paris.

See ya in September, Beret. I won't cheat on you with some lesser clipper jockey from the street. Enjoy your vacation.

It's taken years, but I only have to say "Comme d'hab" when I go in for a cut. Introverts dream!

Snow is starting to stick to some things! I’m going to bed now though.

It’s snowing tonight in Paris! The ground isn’t cool enough for the snow to stick yet. It’s still really pretty!

In his speech, the pope captured a lot of what I love about cinema. It elevates us by inviting us into the story and lives of the characters. It can open our minds to new ideas and realities. Good cinema shows us ways of hope, and the courage to act in hope. Plus it's fun.

It's worth the read.

Ah yes, Matt Walsh. Christianity is most well known for _not_ being about a father whose son died that others might live…

You’re allowed to believe & live how you want but Jesus was pretty emphatic that his followers needed to follow his example: loving your neighbors, giving yourself up for them.
PSA: If you claim to be a "practicing Catholic" and you believe this, you really are not listening to the Gospel reading on Sunday mornings. Matthew 10:34-37, Matthew 12:46-50, Mark 3:31-35, Luke 8:19-21, Luke 14:26, Luke 9:59-62 ⚓️
