There are lots of valid critiques of Dawn of Everything, but nobody can deny that Graeber and Wengrow did the reading - I don't agree with some of their interpretations, but they had clearly done the work, and didn't misrepresent what was in the papers they cited.

The citations tell the story - they're exactly what you get from non-specialist grad students getting paid 20 bucks an hour to make a plausible-looking list of references.

You can tell when someone has actually read the stuff in the footnotes and when they haven't, when they've actually delved into the state of the fields they're describing and when they haven't. You can guess which of those two "Sapiens" is.

I wrote a whole-ass 400-page book because I was so mad at Sapiens!

I got to see him a bunch at PWG shows seven or eight years ago and he really did a great job working the crowd. You could see the talent immediately.

Fry sauce. You tend to see it in the inland PNW, southern Idaho, Utah, that area.

Yes, you are. It's the best spot in Yakima.

I'm going to be honest with you brother, the trip to Yakima isn't worth it on its own, but someday you WILL taste this magic.

I'm workshopping this Take but I think people generally split into two camps: homesteaders and villagers, with really different preferences and ideas of how to live. A suburb is just a physically proximate collection of homesteads.

My sense is that her base isn't buying that explanation and would take their chances

She sucks but she's not Joe Kent! The people in her district have no illusions about what kind of politician she is. They're mad, for all the reasons people on Bluesky are mad at her. She's going to face the will of those voters in a primary! That's how it's supposed to work!

He has made every single person and thing he's touched in his life worse. The world is worse for his existence. We all suffer for the failures of the social, cultural, political, and economic systems that allow him to exist.
