We're over here now too!!! 🌟 Trying to build up the accounts we follow & find old followers from The Other Place so thought it would be good to create a starter pack of Open University and other HE peeps to kick things off. We'll add more people and feeds to it as we find them.

@drteague9455.bsky.social set a trap for his students, what he learned is a major bummer. The lure of the large language model is strong, and the students don't know what they don't know. Freedom and literacy are on the line, history urges us to our own work.

I Set A Trap To Catch Students Cheating With AI. The Result Was Deflating
"I am no stranger to students trying to cut corners by copying and pasting from Wikipedia, but the introduction of generative AI has enabled them to cheat in startling new ways."

Students have been integral to our #WordsOfWisdom project. They’ve reviewed colleague’s examples of sustainability in education and provided insight into what resonates, motivates and matters to them. We hope their input will inspire other educators as they’ve inspired us! #StudentVoiceWeek

Debates about generative artificial intelligence on college campuses have largely centered on student cheating. But focusing on cheating overlooks a larger set of ethical concerns that higher education institutions face, writes sociologist Jeffrey C. Dixon on @us.theconversation.com.
Student cheating dominates talk of generative AI in higher ed, but universities and tech companies face ethical issues too
A sociologist who researches AI’s impact on work and education argues there are ethical dimensions to generative AI that institutions are not considering.

Nice article that really rings familiar.

It also prompted us wonder - should we be more mindful of building in time for silence into the student curriculum? Could giving students dedicated space for thought lead to better outcomes?
