The Office of Safeguarding National Security said it firmly supports strict action against people “using the [Tai Po] disaster to create chaos in Hong Kong” and “resolutely punishing activities that endanger national security,” comparing it to attempts to revive the 2019 unrest

This 2024 post from the DAB’s Peggy Wong is quickly becoming infamous.

In it, the pro-Beijing district councillor dismisses fire safety concerns about the Wang Fuk work as malicious rumours misleading the public, and accuses the Democratic Party of “provocatively live-streaming “ from the scene.

Speaking of clouds in films. I always think of the last (?) scene in 聶隱娘, the clouds in the mountain covering and uncovering the background. That's how I pictured 武當山 since 2015.
To this day, when I think of cloud studies, paintings of clouds, I think of John Constable. In a similar vein, I think of Akira Kurosawa (and "Ran" in particular) when I think of clouds in films. And with regards to Tweets and Skeets, @fajoba.bsky.social! ☁️

Did Mitch McConnell rip one out of Lo Chung Mau's playbook? #Hongkonger history.
83 year old Senator Mitch McConnell just tripped and fell while being asked about ICE

There was a slogan in the Hong Kong protests, 兄弟爬山 各自努力, loosely translates to "everyone climbs the same mountain in their own way." People don't/can't have the same lived experience, training, and values, but they can work towards a common goal in their own fine way.
Someone in my mentions is upset because these people haven’t suffered the worst at ICE’s hands and therefore they shouldn’t be praised for being out on the streets?

Yeah, no. To push back on these people we need everyone — especially those with relative privilege — to get up and get involved.
Portland, you magnificent weirdos

It’s important to flood social media and news channels with news about how ICE lies, so that potential jurors see it.

Reminder to those sending surface mail from or to Canada: Canada Post strike is ongoing, with no mail being delivered across the country. Not clear when the strike will be over.

For those interested in an objective summary of the situation, here's one I found via BBC: www.bbc.com/news/article...
Canada Post is on strike. What this means for your mail
Mail deliveries have ground to a halt in Canada as postal workers strike for the second time in two years.

I mean yes this is funny, but the fact that these unconstitutional stormtroopers are so directionless that they literally stand around waiting for random nonwhite delivery guys to bike past them is just pathetic. No mandate, no mission, no clue. Just racism.
ICE attempted
and failed to disappear a food delivery guy.
It needed to be scored.

This photo heralds September in Hong Kong. So many childhood memories.
When I logged in earlier today, my TL was full of mention of that man whose existence on Earth I did not know about until he was killed. This time around, I've seen a number of lovely photos from different people (most of them not living in the US). And adding one of my own to help cleanse the TL.

News from Finland. A 9-year-old lost an especially good stick he’d had since he was 2. He hung up 20 posters. A few days later it was returned. It had been found by a 2-year-old, who wanted to keep it for herself, but her mother made her return it. She got toys, flowers and candy as a reward.
