For NYC in particular there is universal pre-k starting at ~age 4, and a lot of low-cost/sliding scale afterschool options (and at a lot of schools, an early drop-off option for families that need it), so I understand the rationale for having it run up to age 5.

By doing that, I have knocked down the number of ear infections I get by a LOT, because I think mine often were caused by my ears not draining properly

Ok, so the salt water is def a thing, but the others are sort of overall decongestant stuff so YMMV on which you want to use, but 1-2 days of Afrin seem to really reduce swelling in eustacian tubes, and if you layer that with a nasal steroid spray for a bit, it seems to help things drain—

Same. I could picture holding the snapdragon apple I ate today in my hand, or a macoun on a branch in an orchard from when we were there in Sept. it’s one of the reasons I love books more than movies—I can see them exactly as I want them to be.
