This story is really about people not knowing how online publication works.

It doesn't sound like anything untoward happened. Things are often put online in advance of publicising their presence. Clearly, someone just knew where to look.

Every biologist knows the story of Fleming's chance discovery of penicillin. But is it true?

Here, with @asimovpress.bsky.social, I write about inconsistencies in the canonical story, and explore a few alternative theories about what really happened in that St. Mary's lab in the summer of 1928.

Since 2004, global deaths have been in decline due to greater access to diagnostics, treatment & prevention.

This hard-won progress is now at risk due to major cuts to global public health.
