I wish I had a good answer. Our 6yo struggles with some perfectionism too.
Sometimes we have some success by praising effort and validating feelings, other times it doesn't help much at all.
We can often mitigate the fallout with big long hugs and reminders that love is given freely, not earned

At the same time that corporate propaganda has taught us to hate being a recipient of social programs, it turns out corporations love NOTHING MORE than being a recipient of federal bailouts & subsidies.

Library is a great idea! Once you have loaded a card, from what I've noticed, you have access to that book indefinitely through the app

We have one and have really liked it. Only downside is how dang expensive the cards are. Definitely a razor and blades model of revenue.

The patriarchy harms men and women; men by making us feel we have no value unless we earn it, women in myriad other ways.
So, it technically does boil down to ego, a desire to prove our value and inability to see things from an alternative perspective, but not (I hope) arrogance.

Texas has a bunch of state constitutional amendments up to vote on. Most of the ballot language sounds like "cut my taxes? Ban new taxes? Yes please!" But what it actually amounts to is further screwing over public schools.
