Two things I do know: 1) sunshine helps 2) social media tends to stop me from functioning, which is why I've been absent so much, despite how much I miss and adore so many of you here 💕
Over the years, I've become less of a well-oiled machine and more of a jerry-rigged contraption that runs only sporadically, at inconvenient times, and under a set of frustratingly opaque conditions

When I say we've worked on a lot of covers together, I mean we've worked on A LOT of covers together! (And there are three more in progress, FYI.)

Today, I drafted a newsletter, updated my website, and caught up on social media and my inbox instead of doing my taxes. Just remember, though: It's only avoidance if it's from the appropriate region of France. Otherwise, it's just sparkling procrastination.

Apparently any nudity in art immediately prompts a "Sexually Suggestive" label by Bluesky. I'd hate to know what they must think of Michelangelo's "David." 😶

I should note that Albert Joseph Pénot is most famous for his absolutely iconic bat-woman painting, "La Femme Chauve-Souris" (~1890), which I also hope to diamond-paint at some point, because WOW.

In recent weeks, I've been either working on edits for WORLD'S OKAYEST ORACLE (RELUCTANTLY) SEEKS DEMON or diamond painting--and I just turned in my edits! So now I can concentrate more fully on my latest project, the diamond-painting version of "Départ pour le Sabbat" (1910) by Albert Joseph Pénot:

Although it does feature zombies, @oliviawrites.bsky.social's ZOMROMCOM is more about a woman's quest to figure out her place—and maybe make out with a hot vampire while she's at it.

When musicians don’t know how to end a song, they just fade out. I think other writers should do that too. Sketch comedy, screenwriting, playwrights. Have everyone talk softer and softer as they slowly sneak off stage.
Novelists can end chapters with gradually shrinking type.

deepest of deep breaths

feeling nervous about this one, friends! I've written about the mainstreaming of pull-to-publish, its impact on fandom, and what it means for an increasingly corporate and IP-driven creative landscape.
"Feed fanfic into capitalism, and it comes out shaped like capitalism."

@readingtheend.bsky.social dissects the trend pulling fanfiction through the traditional publishing pipeline (and what it means for fandom):

Librarians (and honestly, everyone). Block and/or watch out for this account, which appears to be gathering posts critical of Charlie Kirk/right wing ideology.

My great joy of the past several months has been exploring previously-unknown-to-me art and artists.

This is unrelated to Bloch's painting, but: As it turns out, I have a newfound appreciation for surrealism? Which is odd, because the world is completely and utterly normal right now!
To me, the most incredible aspect of this painting (Carl Bloch's "In a Roman Osteria," 1866) is how viscerally Bloch evokes the squirming discomfort of social rejection by people who are much cooler than you (and, in one case, probably gossiping about you despite the seeming napkin on her head?).

Apropos of nothing: I think the Pet Shop Boys' "Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money)" from 1986 made me consciously grapple with unreliable narration for the first time. The song is clearly written from a conman's POV, and so many parts of his story make no sense, even as he insists they do.
