Irish author based in Glasgow, writing horror and fantasy fiction inspired by the history and mythology of places I have called home.
Thanks to all who have read so far! Rising through the ranks in “Welsh mythology” according to the store page. While I think this is maybe overstating its weight in the canon, a great honour to be counted as Welsh mythology nonetheless

Does anyone have any recommendations for dictating when writing? I’m experimenting with reducing eye strain for first drafts and having a go with the ios text to speech and open to suggestions

my wife has helped me come up with a heartwarming teen horror tale called “The Scarecrow Tokes at Midnight”. Look forward to that in (looks at calendar, looks at baby son) 10 - 20 years

Watched some of a documentary about M.R. James which claimed its central question as whether he had seen or believed in ghosts. No harm to these people who are clearly huge fans and put a lot of work into it, but if you’ve read A Vignette I think it’s hard to arrive at an answer other than “yes”

*Un* natural disaster struck at The Grand Hotel today, where a toast to the health of Maimarizj, the Great Wyrm, was delivered in front of the assembled fraternal order of the Great Worm, an unrelated deity who demands, above all, abstention from homophonous sounds. We go live now to the scene
The Grand Hotel hosts visitors from across the Seven Realms. It has aeries for dragons, aquariums for merfolk, and everything in between. Today the hotel is playing host to two simultaneous conventions. It's your first day on the job. What could possibly go wrong?

that’s actually the RPMP-79, one variant of which came equipped with a cannon. It was put into mass production on the strength of the initial Poirot prototype but became somewhat infamous after its use in the ruthless suppression of protesters against the regime following the war
My favourite episode is the one where Poirot gets a shoulder-mounted cannon.

What are some ‘unofficial’ one hit wonders for you? I was just thinking how Dead Man’s Party was the first Oingo Boingo song I heard and nothing else by them touches it

my first job out of uni required me to sit at a desk phone and for hours every day make and field enquiries. it’s no exaggeration to say that the skill it gave me sometimes feels like a superpower
oh no it happened again: a 5-minute phone call solved a problem more quickly than a week of emailing back and forth

had the pleasure of seeing Paul Muldoon in Portstewart with my folks a few years ago. Not a long session but he said a few things that have stayed with me. Will be a tough act to follow
📣 Call for nominations!

As Professor Paul Muldoon completes his term as Ireland Professor of Poetry in October, The Ireland Chair of Poetry Trust invites nominations for the Ireland Professor of Poetry for 2025-2028.

Pirates! Can’t live with ‘em, can’t have a proper bit of maritime adventure without ‘em. Have a read and see what a gang of them might get up to if they were led by a woman with a bit of… let’s say, “vision.”

I hope you’ll enjoy “The Wreck of Our Lady”, a story that I think truly has it all — pirates, prophecies, religious schisms, demonic possession, and above it all swashbuckling action on the high seas!
