I highly recommend reading The Silmarillion again, especially if you’ve only read it once. Here's why:

I've read it twice and each experience was different, in the best way. The first time was filled with gaining knowledge. The second time, I gained perspective. #Tolkien #TheSilmarillion #BookSky

So my plan is to leave my books everywhere now and see what happens 😂
My partner just uttered the most loving words a person can utter:

“You have too many books. They’re all over the place.
I’m gonna buy you a new bookcase.”

He’s a good man Savannah, a GOOD MAN.

Haven’t been reading much bc life BUT I have been able to play a lot of Tales of the Shire and I’m so hooked!!! 💖 Who else is playing??

I love Beleg so much! 😭❤️ I’m so excited to hang out with him again.

His first meeting with Túrin in Unfinished Tales made me choke up. 🥹 So moving.

Reading Tolkien is making me even more empathetic. 💖

Reading Narn i Hîn Húrin in Unfinished Tales is comforting right now. So much wisdom and in some ways, hope, in the dialogue.

Unfinished Tales is finally helping me understand and feel some empathy for Morwen lol I've been so annoyed with her pride but her words with Túrin in this version makes me more sympathetic to her plight.

It's not often i manage to capture more than one Kingfisher in the same photo, so here's my #StunDay capture for this lovely warm Sunday morning with 2 of them on the same reed at Rodley Nature Reserve.

My husband & I were at the bird store debating which bird bath to get. We were talking ourselves into the cheapest option even though we really wanted the midpriced prettier one.

My manager texted me & asked if I would work an extra 4hr shift & that friends is how we ended up with this beauty.

On 22 June, 1342 (by Shire-reckoning), Bilbo Baggins returns to Bag End to discover he's been "Presumed Dead". All his personal effects were in the process of being auctioned off by Messrs Grubb, Grubb and Burrowes, with Bilbo having to buy many of them back. #Tolkien #BookSky

I’m in the Narn i Hîn Húrin part of Unfinished Tales and the waterworks start almost immediately??? I shouldn’t be surprised but that was even faster than in The Children of Húrin book. Wish me luck, this part is long. I’m planning to take breaks for my heart. 🥺

I’m connecting more to Voronwë in Unfinished Tales than in The Fall of Gondolin. I’m appreciating more what he’s been through and feeling his pain. I don’t know if it’s his longer (?) dialogue that’s getting to me or the way it’s written, but I will say that diving into more Tolkien texts…

I’m reading Unfinished Tales after having finished The Fall of Gondolin a few weeks ago. It jumps right back into Tuor’s journey to Gondolin and it’s so fun to be back in those beautiful lands of the First Age. 🥰 They might be my favorite of all the lands of Middle-earth. Hard to say, lots to love!

Reading Tolkien has become a meditation of sorts for me. Years ago, my therapist told me to imagine places that brought me joy in my mind’s eye but that was hard for me. I’ve realized that it’s easier for me to travel to beautiful places when I’m reading Tolkien’s works.

But I think, mostly, it’s that it doesn’t sit right with me to have one space where the people from the outside looking in can see a safe space for them to be comfortable with complacency. I’m not like that IRL and I won’t be like that here.

What do I mean by that? I mean, Free Palestine. Fuck ICE.
I understand the need or desire at times to want one social media account to hold certain things for you like a public diary. Such as documenting your garden or what you’re reading. I do! But I don’t like the extra work that goes into all of that either. Maybe I thrive in the chaos of not doing that

As you can see (?) I posted this to Flashes having no idea it cross posts to here. I don’t know if I like that. Whatever lol maybe I need to get over the compartmentalization of it all.
Current read! 🩵

This will be the 9th Tolkien book I’ve read (I’m counting The Lord of the Rings as one novel) and I’m really excited to see where it takes me.

I’ll be sharing sporadic reading updates here and on Bluesky. Writing out my thoughts has helped me process what I’m reading better.

I’m on Flashes now if y’all wanna find me over there. Is it a function of the app that you automatically follow people over there who you already follow on here? Idk. I’m from the 1900’s, be nice to me. 🤣

In response to a Q from @maxrn.bsky.social, Lander said: "This is a critical time to have a mayor who will stand up to ICE and stand up to Donald Trump... I am very grateful to the other mayoral candidates who came out here to call for my release and I really hope New Yorkers will elect one of us."

My personal ranking of the three books that make up "The Great Tales:"

1. The Children of Húrin
2. The Fall of Gondolin
3. Beren and Lúthien

Subject to change. 🤪
I finished reading The Fall of Gondolin, which also means I finished The Great Tales!!! It was an incredible journey and I highly recommend reading these books, especially if you love The Silmarillion and the First Age. 💖

George Floyd was murdered by police five years ago today.

The Say Their Names cemetery in Minneapolis features memorials for Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Amadou Diallo, Oscar Grant, Korryn Gaines, Freddie Gray and far too many more Black people who died at the hands of police.

The word count on this app is the bane of my existence on it. I just can’t hang out here that much because I have too much to say. That’s who I am.

I’ve noticed people drop off from reading additional posts in the same thread. So if I can’t say it succinctly, why say it at all? Ugh. Lol

I love how Tolkien was tasked with writing a sequel to The Hobbit and he was like I'm gonna do whatever the fuck I want to do, actually, and wrote instead a sequel to The Silmarillion - which hadn't even been published! - and that's how we ended up with The Lord of the Rings. 🥰
