one unexpected way to be a better New Yorker? start paying closer attention to the birds that are all around us. in this week's issue, Bird City author @ryangoldberg.bsky.social shows us what the city can look like when you take a birds-eye view: nygroove.nyc/bird-watchin...

It was really fun to talk to journalist Alesandra Tejeda out in the Rockaways for this @nygroove.nyc story. Love the subhead too.

A day in and many shares later, it's clear people agree with my take on this story: we DO be living in a society still nygroove.nyc/why-does-no-...
Society broke down and all, but you really still need to stop at red lights
I can't believe we need to explain this one, but it seems that we really do

I'm in Park Slope too and every day I see a car run a red light almost every block.

Good on @timdonnelly.com & @nygroove.nyc for covering this and the way it's framed. If we can't expect the bare minimum of our fellow citizens, what can we. What does it say these drivers have no respect for others.

As someone who just started driving in the city, the number of times I see cars blow red lights is unhinged

Just the other day after walking our son to school we watched a car blast through a red light right in front of a traffic cop. The cop chirped their sirens for a second and did absolutely nothing. During the morning commute, pedestrians everywhere. The NYPD truly doesn’t give a single shit.

As a pedestrian who no longer drives and is often almost hit by these fucks while crossing the street, I agree that it is truly terrifying. It’s happening here in DC a ton lately.

This is an “everybody” thing. Micromobility is certainly calling attention to itself with a huge bump in riders who treat reds as Yield.

But especially car drivers. There is too much at stake when a driver decides to gun through a light around here. If you don’t have the time, don’t drive.

Just last night I was almost hit on a walk with my dog when a driver came flying up a small residential street, blowing past a stop sign to turn left. Solidarity to all of the peds and cyclists out here fighting for our lives 🙏

I've only encountered issues a few times, and what really helped was having an actual OMNY account linked to my card - it enabled me to go in and fix the issue quickly.

But I have also noticed that the charges are appearing much more quickly now since the massive upgrade last month, so that's good.
