Learned a lot in this long thread
Trump's mechanism to pay the troops during the shutdown is by far the most illegal budgetary action he's taken as POTUS, potentially setting the stage to break everything.

It's also needless because Congress would easily pass a troop pay bill if Johnson were willing to gavel in.

Long thread.

History 🧵
I love Hammerstein’s matrix, always applicable. Looks like he was also a great man.
Indeed you may have encountered some of Hammerstein's (he dropped the aristocratic 'von' at this point) leadership principles in management studies.

They're characteristically blunt and on point. They formed the basis for his wholesale overhaul proposals for the Weimar Republic's army. /7

Crazy that the Covidtests.gov link, which used to get you free tests, is now direct to government-sponsored conspiracy theory! These are not serious people.
Lab Leak: The True Origins of Covid-19
THE ORIGIN “The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2” publication — which was used repeatedly by public health officials and the media to discredit the lab leak

Chilling.
The actual conspiracy theory is that multiple women independently lied, with apparently nothing to gain, and much to lose, about Trump’s entanglement with Epstein. katemanne.substack.com/p/the-actual...

@moderation.bsky.app , time to review policies?
Dear fellow Bluesky users: I have now run a test that indicates the following possible rules applied by the content filters:
-Female nipples = sexually suggestive
-Male nipples = not sexually suggestive
After my complaints about flagging of ostensibly "suggestive" images on here, received suggestion that Bluesky's algorithms may have a "nipple trigger" (great neologism!) so I'm testing to see if & how it's gendered (John Singer Sargent & Paul Cadmus portrait of Jared French). Let's see how it goes-

Yo resisters!
Listen up for an #altCitizen #altPride history lesson about Brent Nicholson Earle (b.1951).

In the early AIDS years, long before the internets, before cell phones, before most of you were born, Earle did larger than life things you never heard of to raise awareness and #Pride. #1

This piece on Boeing’s quality control is insane. If even a tenth of it is true it shows that the rot at Boeing is such that the company is not salvageable.
The latest from our star Boeing reporter Maureen Tkacik: turns out a whistleblower said it would take 10-12 years for 787s to start failing. The one that crashed into an Indian hospital today was built in 2014. prospect.org/economy/2025...
One of the Dreamliners That Gave a Boeing Manager Nightmares Just Crashed
Whistleblowers always warned that passengers would pay a price for Boeing’s tyrannical corner-cutting, especially with the planes shipped overseas.
