It was supposed to be "be gay do crime", not "be gay be crime".

Magneto was right
I say not putting some coroner through the trauma of sorting and reassembling a chum-bucket of mixed ICE goons’ remains before subjecting the families to having to identify them is the compromise. Just disappear ICE goons quietly, never to be seen again. There. I elaborated.

As a frequent user of em dashes, particularly since most word processors since at least the 90s have turned space dash space into an em dash automatically, I am OFFENDED that people think em dashes are a sing of AI writing.

I enjoyed every second of hunting for collectibles in the first game and a half, but the second? It was a chore. All of the side stuff felt so much more like a chore in SM2. I’m not sure what the functional difference was, because on paper the formula was the same.

In the first game, and in Miles Morales, the collectibles felt like cool little bonuses along the way. They felt rewarding. In Spider-Man 2, they all felt like pointless busy work. Every time I saw a blue glowing chest on a rooftop, I HAD to drop down to get it, but I didn’t like doing it.

I gave my left nut to survive to see 2020. It was a bad investment. Don’t give your left nut away cheaply.

If I recall, Peter first got those in the comics, during Civil War when Tony Stark gave him a new suit. Except they were fragile and mostly utility legs. They’re more of a visual thing in the game, though. They don’t really change the gameplay up, but they fit this Peter’s more high tech world.

I played the Spider Man games on PS5, and didn’t see any serious bugs. Some jank with the finisher moves repositioning people weirdly was the worst of it. I bet on PC it’s a lot worse though.

I tried telling people how great Daily Motion was back in like 2007 or 8 but nooo, everyone had to stick with the crappy platform that had mono audio and 360p video!

If this is the crap we see from a huge company like Amazon, in possibly the most translated to and from language on earth, the most dubbed to language, the promise of it getting better over time is genuinely useless to any other language.
December 2, 2025 at 9:22 PM
And all of that has to be underpinned by a competent AI translation model that can make decisions about when to be literal, when to translate an idiom, and when to totally write something new because an idea doesn't translate well. Which requires its own corpus of source data and translations.
December 2, 2025 at 9:22 PM
I know if you want to clone a single voice, and you don't mind it being flat, you only need a double digit number of hours of training data, but if you want a generalised voice acting model, able to do a variety of voices and emotional tones, and able to handle unfamiliar words, you need millions.
December 2, 2025 at 9:22 PM
If you're trying to do, say, a Tagalog or Swahili dub by AI, where's that corpus of training data coming from? There a lot of cinema in those languages? A good seven or eight million or so hours of speech across a variety of accents? Got a good translation AI running, to start with?
December 2, 2025 at 9:22 PM
Aside from being unethical, AI dubs aren't even useful. I did think maybe in uncommon languages it could be good to provide literally anything, but English is the best case example of the quality you can expect, HUGELY represented in teh training data.

Being held to account for things they have written is a totally unfair persecution of journalists. They were young, naive, and needed the writing job (last week, in their fifties).

I am shocked to learn that Gatsby only entered the public domain a few years ago. Copyright as a concept is totally out of control.

I joked at work that artists had it better when we all got our music from Limewire. A coworker in a semi famous band (not famous enough he doesn’t need a day job but I bet you’ve heard them) agreed, sincerely.

But don’t you know? Nazis are the MOST marginalised people, because they aren’t allowed to kill us all! You’re infringing on their rights by existing! Just like I infringe on their rights by saying I wouldn’t be at all sad if they all contracted Ebola simultaneously.

Super is better when you know where to find upgrades so you're a bit more geared up. If you can get super missiles before Crocomire, he's an absolute cake walk.
December 2, 2025 at 5:37 AM
I used to prefer Zero Mission, I actually played that first, but I grew to prefer Super. I think Fusion gets a bad rap for being a bit too hand holdy, bit the game opens up as you play. They were experimenting with what worked for portable sessions.

Ah, yeah, deadnaming Rebecca Heineman. You'd think he could at least afford her basic personal respect after she's gone.

I'm watching the video now, and don't know what about John Carmack you're referring to, but "I didn't know that bout John Carmack, that sucks" is kind of a universally applicable statement.

Another fun thing people would do, in power outages in a storm that downed power lines, people WITHOUT proper grid-tie setups would make these leads to plug generators into their houses. Not knowing it sends lines all over the street live, endangering electrical workers fixing downed lines.

I used to work at Jaycar, basically Australia’s Radio Shack. Year round we’d get asked for this. My favourite was the 15 amp to 10 amp suicide lead, for hooking up caravans (trailers in Americanese) to household mains. 15A on the caravan side, of course.

I haven’t played Other M myself, yet, but, speaking as a Metroid fan, Metroid fans are a bunch of whiny little shits. If it isn’t Super Metroid exactly, it’s the worst game ever.

Unpopular opinion, I know, but I REALLY didn’t enjoy Dread. All Metroid fans hate something about Metroid. It’s nature.

You can definitely spot when a python tutorial was originally written as a JavaScript or C one and has just been ported without really rethinking the structure. The code works but it's kind of very dumb. LLMs are good for discussing the right way to do those things in python, and in a modern way.
