Emissions, fossils fuels & deforestation are symptoms - not causes like cows & cars. That we discuss & treat symptoms only is a feature and not a bug. We don't want to change.

Mitigation & adaptation are the same:
- plant based
- local
- low tech

US lost 90% of bumblebees in 20 years but they are not extinct yet.

US lost 80% of all bees in 2025 but bees are not extinct yet.

UK lost 63% of all flying insects biomass in 3 years, 2021-2024, but flying insects are no extinct yet.

The technical term is #extinction debt. #WalkingDead #Ghosts

Rice is only an issue if grown wet. It shouldn't be. Even if grown wet, it's marginal compared to cow or shrimp.

Both can be true, sadly.

More efficiency is not reduction. Hence, we have two different words.

Reduction is reduction. We do not reduce, we increase.

We've added 800 million more humans since Paris in 2015. We eat 10% more meat / person (10% more deforestation / person). We also produced 900 million new cars, 1.1 cars for every new humans who was born since Paris. Less than 10% were electric. As populations & consumption both keep increasing ...

Nothing defines our age better than functional extinction. Extinction debt has made us functionally extinct.

Europe has only 1% old growth forest left. Canada less than 2.7%. Germany less than 0.6%. 8 out of 10 trees sick.

Like @fgusmao.bsky.social I am here because TwitterX wasn't happy with my animal rights messages. I didn't flee, I was exiled 😂 It can be tricky to have a livestock animal as your personal fact checker.

Anybody know why the UK lost 63% of all flying insects in just 3 years, 2021-2024? What caused it?

Is there any reason for us to not be interested in exploring this? Is there any reason for us to not be interested in discussing this? @royalsocietypublishing.org @rspb.bsky.social

It takes 10 years for CO2 to reach 90% of temperature impact and hence the 2°C carbon budget is zero today. 2°C is committed based on past actions.

Most species on Earth will go extinct because of past actions too. Nature reserves (zoos) and wild gardens can trick us into thinking it's not so bad.

The biodiversity aka Life-On-Earth collapse wave will hit us sooner and deadlier than expected™️ It will hit us together with the smaller climate change wave.

There will be no 1.5°C to pass because we never dared to define a benchmark other than 0% aka extinction. There is no extinction overshoot.

When old growth forests collapse, there will be no "overshoot" or "geoengineering" discussion. There will be nothing.

Countries across the world use more land for golf courses than for wind or solar. Golf courses are sprayed with glyphosate - a broad spectrum antibiotic. We still deforest regions for new solar & wind projects.

Climate change is a symptom of emissions which are a symptom of population & consumption growth. Having children, driving cars and eating cows.

We've added 800M more humans since 2015 (Paris) and eat 10% more meat/person (more old-growth deforestation). We also build 900M new cars (most not EVs).

Unless we live close to our own nature aka in nature, we cannot escape self-licensing loops and other mental health issues and addictions.

"It wasn't until 1998 that William Whitman et al published 12 years of data. They estimated that 95% of all prokaryotes (archaea & bacteria) live in the deep subsurface, 55% in the marine subsurface and 39% in the terrestrial subsurface."

We confirmed 13% of life 27 years ago. We know 0 about it.

There are valuable lessons we can learn from all this now that food systems will start collapsing globally and simultaneously due to biodiversity loss and climate change. A global Holodomor seems unavoidable now given all the irreversible ecosystem damages.

This time, the last woman standing loses.
