Holy smokes, I never expected the hometown of my maternal ancestry, Bad Dürkheim, to show up on Depths of Wikipedia

This sounds unhealthy to be perfectly honest

I tend to use Wwise or build my own wrapper over the built-in system (monolith mixing for dynamic music, and just using some basic audio pools for everything else). For everything else I prefer Wwise - their licensing is much less abhorrent than FMOD (forced splashscreen? seriously?)

First bit of feedback, someone else might have already brought this up - please do not have your tutorial start in the main menu. Especially when one may want to say, change music volume, but literally can't because the tutorial does not let one access any buttons other than the one it wants you to.

I think the word firefighter has already solves this problem for us. They’re a mailfighter.

Oh please do! I‘ve looked around bit but haven‘t gone super in-depth yet, so feel free to share whatever you may have :)

This looks awesome! I‘d definitely pick this up if I still used Unity, but I use custom tech now, so I can‘t wait to have to figure all this stuff out myself 🫠

I‘m not canadian so maybe I‘m missing something but to me the fact that the internet IS global and I get to talk to and exchange with people all over the globe is the thing exactly making it special. Having a single-nation social media defeats the point imo.

Everybody knows texture sampling becomes cheaper the older the texture is!

Ahhh I see now, thanks for the info!
November 3, 2025 at 7:10 AM
Right, but wouldn‘t that interpolation need to be 1 frame behind to know what to interpolate or are you extrapolating in some way?
November 3, 2025 at 6:55 AM
Wait really? I‘d be curious to learn how this works. In the past I‘ve always had a 1 frame delay since I‘d be interpolating between previous state and current state for a given frame. There‘s probably some clever math trick I‘m missing.

If you think this is crazy, look at Warframe: It has 13 years of content, especially the latest bits have amazing graphical fidelity, nothing has been cut or gets downloaded during play, it contains over 50 hours of voice-acted cinematic quests and hundreds of environments…
and takes up 45GB. How?!
November 3, 2025 at 6:46 AM
What about the delay/latency this causes? Or have you found a way to avoid it?
November 3, 2025 at 6:22 AM
I respect that A LOT but a lot of code I write in order to get something done on time is terrible and I‘d *incredibly* embarrassed if anyone got to see it 🫠

I prefer to build in proper mod support with a sandboxed scripting language and an additive filesystem but then compile the game AOT for perf.

PLEASE DO NOT…
… in your general release build. Make it an external download! PDB files can quickly get massive - Satisfactory‘s install size was 40% PDB files last I checked which were completely unnecessary for the game itself. Now to be fair, it‘s a UE game so a bit if an extreme example.

I used to be somewhat of a ProBuilder Professional myself but I’m pretty sure it’s worse than RealtimeCSG.

Wohoo! Congrats to the team!

It‘s almost like lighting a scene is as much art as tech…

I think it might be related to venture capital funding? Just a hypothesis. I don‘t know for sure.

I agree with this so hard. Cmake is quite possibly my most behated piece of software. It consistently causes issues, it’s slow, it’s hard to use. It’s neither backward nor forward compatible and doesn’t allow multiple versions present on a system. It’s miserable. How is this the standard?!?

He’s so real for that. I am in full agreement.

I for one would absolutely glue my head into a monitor given the opportunity
