This is why I find the idea that genAI, the ultimate form of rentiership trying to force its way into every aspect of our lives, will somehow "solve" games being too expensive to make or buy is ludicrous and dangerous. The opposite will happen.
if you asked me to diagnose the western game industry's current problem it would start with "landlords have absorbed basically all disposable income"

It's great that D&D has gotten so many people into TTRPGs. But what makes me sad about D&D's absolute dominance of the industry is that there are so many other TTRPGs, which tell so many kinds of stories in so many genres, and most TTRPG players only ever experience the narrow range D&D tells.

Discord is trying to sound like they're backtracking without backtracking on their BS data collection scheme, don't be satisfied or pull back on criticism. I'm still prepping to pull out by mirroring servers onto other services and giving friends backup contact info.
No website or app needs your face or ID. It's always scaremongering about made up child safety concerns, pretending this is a solution(it's not), to get your data. The real goal is to break up groups of marginalized people and sell your info in the brief window before a data breach.

For anyone reading this who missed the UBI memo:
I've been researching the idea of Unconditional Universal Basic Income since 2013. Here's a collection of findings I've compiled from various UBI experiments and studies of cash transfer programs around the world.

This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧵

This is starting to get like universal basic income where every single objective study shows the same result but the people who don't like that result go "uh, well there's just really no way to know"

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

I started to make a document to list some alternatives for Discord that I’ll keep updating. It’s not necesserily to invite everyone to jump out but it’s good to know that they exist.

I think even if discord 100% fully goes back and doesnt implement ID verification at all whatsoever, which I find improbable: I think people should still stop supporting discord anyway for even considering the option.

I know we're all mad about ICE/DHS but we also need to be mad about RFK Jr.

He's killing -- and is setting the stage to kill -- waaaaay more people than DHS does, it's just that it happens quietly and in people's homes. Vaccine recommendations matter. Lying under oath matters.

IMPEACH RFK JR
Three members of Congress and the governor of Hawai'i, a medical doctor who responded to the measles outbreak in Samoa, are calling for RFK Jr's resignation. Emails now reveal he lied under oath about his antivax role in those 83 deaths.

Face scan and ID are such easily bypassable things and don't solve nome of the major problem it's trying to solve. This is all too much work for a fruitless endeavor when the best way to solve it all is just parents be actual parents and damn good internet safety education.
Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month - all accounts set to "teen-appropriate experience" by default www.theverge.com/tech/875309/...

We've entered the 'one weird trick' phase of the national budget, because both of the actual solutions - raising taxes and/or cutting spending - are unpopular.

We will try to do neither for as long as possible, with the result that we will have to do both far more than we'd like.
Dr Oz: "If we could get the average American to start working a year earlier, right out of high school, or a year later -- not retire -- or work better during their lifetime because they're healthy, it would generate about $3 trillion to the US economy. That would more than remove the debt."

Remember the incident where DHS claimed officers shot a guy because he attacked them with a snow shovel?

Yeah. It didn't happen. They shot him through the door of his own home. And then arrested him. And then lied about it. Again.

And they almost shot some kids in the process.
They just blindly shot through the fucking door.
