The first of two very unusual things I found on the summit ridge to Mount Tongariro (1967m) today.

Care to guess what the second thing was?

Wow - what a formation!

Right, time to head northwards from #Wellington, and to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing!
Hoping for better weather than this morning!

I’m no actor, but I’ve just found myself in a re-run of Schindler’s Lift.

Now on the 21st floor.

That’s one big fish for a small stream!

Of all the things I could imagine finding at the rear of a #Cathedral, it certainly wasn’t this.

Wow!
What a way to wave goodbye after three weeks touring New Zealand’s South Island!

Yes, that really is a hot spa overlooking the InterIslander ferry terminal as the sun goes down over the hills above #Picton.

Well, I survived the skydive!

Great to see the world from the perspective of a stooping Peregrine Falcon- even if at only half the speed, and trussed to a big burly bloke!

Wondering if it’s only me who thinks of this Val Doonican song whenever they hear a #NewZealand Bellbird calling?

Tomorrow, it’s “Let’s jump out of an aeroplane at 13,000 feet!” day and pretend I’m a Peregrine Falcon.

But Peregrines probably don’t have second thoughts;
…who knows if I will?

They also stoop a lot faster than 120mph!

Despite the low cloud and periodic rain, our walk along part of the Abel Tasman trail today was very pleasant.

After a damp morning watching fur seals, followed by a 4hr drive in the rain, it was nice to stop to make a brew and to dry out some of the wet gear.

Just as parts of the UK are swamped with Rhododendron, here in New Zealand it seems that Broom has invaded and spread across significant parts of the Abel Tasman area. ☹️

Gosh. I’d never considered that Broom (Ulex europaeus) could grow as an epiphyte.

But here it is growing high up on tree ferns at Gillespie Beach in New Zealand.

Definitely one for #wildflowerhour

This photo of #MountCook and Mt Tasman was taken from our bed at 7:30pm this evening. Two hours later we were out hunting for #glowworms along a forest trail.

Well, today in Wanaka started out fine and bright, with afternoon rain forecast.
It certainly delivered!
Wintry conditions on Isthmus Peak summit, with no view at all after 3.5 hrs and 1,200m of uphill slog, initially in sunshine. So here’s a screenshot from the OS Maps app to prove I was there!
