simply love old timey mono by @dsembry.bsky.social and i've set my personal site with it - something about these typewriter revival fonts (and their numericals, really) just sing for me

you’re right! it feels mostly awful to Go Online™, these days. the internet in a sad state, for reason after reason after reason. but there is a way to fix it; to trade the voidful howling for a quiet & joyful song.

here’s how to win the war for the soul of the internet, and build the Web We Want.

i have to say, this doesn't even sound like a relationship, let alone love - it just sounds like a business holding people hostage.

replace every car touchscreen with CLICKY RADIO BUTTONS and KNURLED KNOBS

not to like, retvrn, but sometimes single-purpose controls are the most affordable regardless of context. plus i wanna mess with these overhead switches bad

one of the coolest logotypes of all time. every letter is treat
cameraposting for the sickos: dad gifted me his minolta SRT 101 over christmas, a sherman tank of a camera body that still fires its mechanical shutter beautifully after a few decades spent in storage. don't think i'm gonna mess around with mercury battery replacements and just get a hotshoe meter

I forget who said it but someone (maybe on here?) pointed out that "simple" needs to be defined with additional context to mean anything

"[...] simplify—while simultaneously avoiding simplicity for simplicity’s sake, because some problems and workflows are inherently complex."

i love this from ditto's design principles - mostly geared towards writing, but apt for so many things

my most popular blogpost ever was an explainer of replit and why it won't replace figma - a response to engagement bait, and hopefully the start of an ongoing series about design technology

i've been in many a triage, i've starship troopered some pretty big bugs, dealt with security breaches, but nothing quite compares to the stress of the final hour of bidding on the auction platform you made

fun milestone: my company turned one recently. first years are hard. i'm getting better at picking the right battles. i've learned much by simply listening to others. i am trusting my design instincts more than i ever have.

year 2 awaits!

building a NAS last year was one of the best decisions i've ever made in my entire life. highly recommend
built my first NAS this weekend and oh I missed the feeling of snapping RAM into place

it is easy to look at this and imagine the editing and curation breakdown happening, and assume that the author/editor/whoever would "edit" this to good if they knew it was bad.

sure. throw it back to the LLM it came from with edits and it's "better."
"Runctitiononal features"? "Medical fymblal"? "1 Tol Line storee"? This gets worse the longer you look at it. But it's got to be good, because it was published in Nature Scientific Reports last week: www.nature.com/articles/s41... h/t @asa.tsbalans.se

Sadly I never got to see D’Angelo in person but my favorite live D’Angelo moment was when he sang “How Does It Feel” for the first time in a decade in Paris (after leaving it out of early shows on that tour) and they went nuts just from the first chord then went on to sing that chorus pitch perfect:

I got the complaint in the horrific OpenAI self harm case the the NY Times reported today

This is way way worse even than the NYT article makes it out to be

OpenAI absolutely deserves to be run out of business
