I had an outlet randomly die on me and instead of incurring a $150 charge + labor to call an electrician I was able to search for possible causes, and determine that A BLOWN LIGHTBULB IN THE ADJOINING BATHROOM was cutting the circuit that turned off the outlet of concern.

I can be curious about good piano warmups or recommendations about music books to learn from as a renewed beginner and go on Reddit and get descriptive and helpful recommendations depending on my preferences. Shoot, I can use YouTube videos to learn how to skateboard or build a fence.

I just find it remarkable that I can have an issue in my house like needing to switch out a light fixture or add a filtered water faucet to my sink and instead of needing to call a plumber or electrician (or damage my house) I can search YouTube and get 10,000 videos about how to do it.

There are, of course, new barriers that have come out of that change (e.g. paywalls, scams), but it's nothing compared to how isolating it was pre-Googled internet to get information about something without knowing someone who knew about it. Or having an encyclopedia or specialty set of books.

My favorite part of it is the way they completely ignore that a lot of the things "rich" people do is because they have an abundance of non-essential income that they can use to fill in the gaps that the rest of us fill with our own labor and sacrifices
