With *waves arms around* everything going on, it may not be obvious to you that the US dollar has lost value since the start of the year. When compared against the Euro, we were 0.95 euros to the dollar at the start of the year, and now it's 0.85 euros to the dollar, a loss of a little over 10%.

My dad wants me to practice more strumming with the pick but it’s loud when I do that and it’s late at night, so here’s where I am with House of the Rising Sun.

What if you could live without living? What if every part of your life was anticipated and fulfilled without you needing much input at all?

What happens is you become the humans from Wall-E. Which, while it’s my personal nightmare is I think the entire goal of the pro-AI movement.

Even as I earn more money in life, my palette is largely a commoner’s. And I like it that way. I’ll take shrimp & grits, chicken soup, or a defrosted pot pie any day of the week baby that’s good eatin

There’s a lot of diagrams online about the constant dance between taste level and skill level, so I can’t source the original idea (without far more effort than I’m willing to make right now) but here’s one example of that diagram

The Valley of Suck is apparently also known as the Valley of Despair on the Dunning Kruger chart. I don’t know where the original is from, but this is an image I found to illustrate it.

Saw this IG post from @culturecritic.bsky.social that saddens me the more I think about it. Because while it’s about the design of ordinary things it really speaks to the design of everything, and how racing toward blandness in things and people is a symptom of a bland, dying culture.
