And you may find yourself living in a thatched-roof hut
And you may find yourself living in the Holy Roman Empire
And you may find yourself negotiating with your lords
And you may find yourself in a beautiful hall, with a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?"

I was to give a talk at a big US Attorney's Office next week abt the complicity of German lawyers in the creation of the Nazi state. Yesterday the Justice Department cancelled it.
Irony is dead.
I've got an op/ed on this I'm looking to place. Help appreciated.

The good news is that they can be disarmed with an Allen wrench.
The Polish defense minister dismissed a high-ranking general who is allegedly responsible for losing anti-tank mines eventually found in an IKEA warehouse.
Polish general fired after missing anti-tank mines were found in IKEA
The mishap only came to light when the military was called to ask when they would collect their mines from an IKEA warehouse.

It is Dec 22 and I have been remiss in not yet posting any bizarre Victorian Christmas cards, so…

Here’s a reminder to make sure you remember to give the gift of a severed head with embedded cleaver this Yuletide.

I'm not sure a single photo could better convey a century of progress in air power. A single RCAF C-17 carries 7 WW1 aircraft across the Atlantic Ocean for the 2017 Vimy Ridge centenary. Remarkably, 4 Nieuport 11s along with 2 Sopwith Pups, and an SE5a fit in the belly of the C-17.
Amazing!

Two words for certain types of people, should you need them:

microlipet: one who gets all worked up over nothing.

struthonian: the person who buries their head in the sand and says ‘Problem? What problem?’.

I rather suspect one of the reasons that the Lord of the Rings and particularly the Peter Jackson adaptations, have cast such a long shadow on the culture is that it is an unusual example of succeeding at presenting - almost entirely earnestly - positive masculine archetypes.

U.S. Navy ships often had a "What the Hell!" pennant in the flagbag. Each flag was unique but usually featured grawlix similar to those found in comic strips. The flag was flown when another ship performed an unorthodox maneuver or sent a confusing signal.
