Two snipers watch carefully for the enemy. Later they killed a Japanese soldier at 1k yds and kept 4 others pinned so they couldn't fire their mortar with effect. With tracers they pointed out the position of the mortar and other Marines rushed them and killed them. Okinawa 1945

I had never heard of this before yesterday, and it's a great example of why Americans need to think more broadly than either 1930s Germany or even US history as a whole about parallels for the current situation
The Chun regime that my wife fought against in the 80s did the exact same thing. They needed a "crisis" that "only they could solve" to hoard more ill-gotten power, so they chose one city (Gwangju), declared its inhabitants enemies, sent trucks full of soldiers to violently attack and kill them.
