Got a lot of follows overnight. For the new people here, I'm Neil. I run the Montgomery-Ramsay jewellery brand and am also its lead designer.

I post a lot of pictures of cats (we take care of a small feral colony here), trees, some jewellery, and the like.

I rant now and again.

Welcome! :)

I think I need to put my sandblasting cabinet on cinder blocks... not as much to fit in in Georgia as to keep me from having to bend over all the time to use it. It's killing my back when I have to batch process 8-10 pieces.

I'll name a design after anyone who buys me an electropolisher...

Still the best traditional Xmas album ever made. It's just not Xmas around here unless this is playing. I think that's a holdover from my father, who used to play this album every Xmas morning since he picked it up.

There's a company called 'Picup Media' that produces these insanely overpriced light boxes for the jewellery industry. Some people love them. And, I guess, for people looking to have it all done for them, it's a good setup. But holy crap is their stuff pricey. 1/

Arya, our calico, hisses at the boys. ALL the boys. 'Cause she's afraid of them and wants them to back off. It merely gets Big Tiger to follow her around because either he's thick or he thinks it's a game(or he's a jerk). But these days, she will hiss walking through rooms with NO boys. Just in case

So, I use a microscope when setting stones. It's amazing how much detail you can see with one that I just... couldn't get even with an Optivisor. Also, a much more comfortable and ergonomic working distance/position. Someone new in the jewellery groups is ALWAYS asking about what scope to get...

Ahhh... jewellery... the price for the titanium spinel gems in my Geode Earrings is about $300. Looks like the piece will be about $950 retail, incl packaging, shipping, CC fees, labour. But I priced them in 18k for fun. $13,000....

Suddenly silver seems like a bargain...

Saw this ad today, and it's HIGHLY misleading.

Look, Moissanites aren't 'from space.' The original sample (found by Henri Moissan, a man whose name has been twisted into the word 'Moissanite' that's pronounced like 'Moist-en-ite' because people can't bear the idea of pronouncing foreign words)1/

Just heard back from vet about Arya's results. Lymphoid hyperplasia is the current diagnosis. Possibly a reaction because of a cyst that we're treating. They want us to go back in for an ultrasound in 2 weeks just to rule out a small chance of lymphoma. I won't count chickens, but I am hopeful.

Day 2 of Comcast 'business' doing maintenance during the business day...

Good thing I had errands to run. Had to refill my 80 cf argon bottle, 'cause I'm frying jewellery with the micro-TIG -- the problem I ran into yesterday.

Last time I worked for a telecom, this kind of thing was inexcusable.

Broke a gem. Damaged a piece. I am not going to have anything to launch at ALL at this rate. Just out several thousand bucks and a year's worth of time.

Memory chip in the NAS died. Will cost $80 to replace it.

Still haven't heard test results for my sick cat. I am so fucking done with this year

These are stupidly labour intensive. And with FedEx losing one pair and me losing one of another pair, they're going to be a rather limited release in the launch. But they are awfully pretty. I wish I didn't like how they looked so much. I'd just skip them.

Our business will be essentially down all day because Comcast is taking us offline ALL day for ‘upgrades’ to their network. Not in a standard maintenance window. Middle of the business day. What kind of idiots run that place? @comcastbusiness.bsky.social ?

How many times are we going to litigate the exact same case? Until the labels get the response they want? I get them wanting to stop piracy, but their position here is wildly untenable. An ISP can't just shut down any IP from which a purported infringement has occurred. There'd be no public wifi...

So... Arya's got an enlarged spleen. We've no idea why. They took a sample to send off for testing. Won't hear back until at the earliest today (likely tomorrow given the holiday catch-up). So. Now I just fret. She also has an infection from something, so she gets meds twice a day.
